Kickstarter for next Double Fine project

Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter

Quote:
Over a six-to-eight month period, a small team under Tim Schafer's supervision will develop Double Fine's next game, a classic point-and-click adventure utilizing modern touch technology. Where it goes from there will unfold in real time for all the backers to see.
Quote:
PLEDGE $15 OR MORE

The finished game in all of its awesome glory on Steam, exclusive access to the PC Beta on Steam, access to the video series, and access the private discussion community
(I don't think this is the same thing as the proposed Psychonauts 2 that Notch was wanting to fund.)

Edit: $1,770,166 out of $400,000, with 27 days left

I predict they will reach the goal in two or three hours. Four at most!
And people (read: publishers) say that point-and-click adventure games are dead...

EDIT: Seems like it will be less than an hour before they hit the goal!

EDIT 2: And it took five minutes since my last edit to hit the goal!

Nice. There are also higher tier pledges for the really high rollers. Here's one for example:
Quote:
Pledge $50,000 or more:
Become an actual character in the game.
If I were rolling in money, like say Notch, I'd totally go for that one.

They need to add PayPal to their donation system. My country can't use Amazon Payments

I really wish they could somehow secure the Grim Fandango license and make something in the same universe. Psychonauts was great of course, but while I was playing it there were all these little bits of art design that reminded me of Grim Fandango and I rather miss it.

Hopefully they get a big enough hit with this and Psychonauts 2 (assuming that gets off the ground) that they can get the license for Grim Fandango and create a sequel for it.

I bet EA/Activision/Ubi are confused. They'll probably take the wrong message from this and start asking for funds for their triple-A titles up front instead of making games that are good enough that fans will support them.

I put in my $15. Looking forward to seeing more hijinks with Tim Schafer in front of the camera.

But, if the Internet has been telling me the truth, game development is a laborious processes. Curious how long each "monthly" documentary update will be.

I'd really love to get the game for 15 bucks but I can't give money to Kickstarter without a credit card and I live in Germany..
Looks like I just have to wait until it comes out.

I finally got a chance to see the Kickstarter video this morning, and it's really funny and professionally done (no cookie monster, though, sadly), so it bodes well for the "making of" documentary for the game.
