here's to hoping this game goes on sale.
this game looks like it could potentially be a lot of fun,
at the same time i have a lot of stuff to play, and i might just as easily end up not playing this at all after a few hours. at 24.99 i can't afford to take the gamble. for 10 or maybe 15 i would be more than willing! so yea, here's to hoping this cool looking game goes on sale soon. i am looking forward to trying it out. but not sure about the learning curve and i know for a fact the people i game with wouldn't buy this at the price it's at either. everyone i know is kinda swamped with new games to play atm. |

Its one of those games where the fun comes from discovering how everything works. I feel I got my money's worth out of it. I bought Sol:Exodus and barely played it. But from that forum, I learned about Evochron Mercenary and bought it. I now have 37 hours played, and I only just bought it 2 weeks ago. After you finish the main IMG quest, you can download a mod that expands it. I am going to start on that next.

I feel like I discover something new every day with this game.
For me, it is easily the best game of it's type I've ever played. Although I got the release discount (~$20) I would pay $25 no problems at all. Definitely worth the price IMHO. |

no exaggeration i have said this allot and i will say it again, best 25 bucks on an indie game i have spent in a LONG time.
i don't regret it. In fact my friends have bought copies just from watching me play lol. plus the small file size of the game does not reflect the quality of game play or graphics for that matter, because of that you really can go somewhere else log into steam and download it fast and play so its "portable" lol Expansive Single Player: you are always finding something new or you can even BUILD something new Multi player: RIDICULOUS dog fights because of the physics inertial system Its pushed the X series, Darkstar One and Freelancer out of the "universe" for me lol |

Not worth it in my book. I hear the rave about the realistic physic in this game. Really??? Then why do you need to keep your speed up to land on a planet? Normally, gravity pulls you down and you would need to decelarate in order not to crash. As for the game play, well, if you're into the type of games where you need to spend an inordinate amount of time to achieve anything, then OK. For me though, spending my time cleaning arrays or mining asteroids just for the pleasure of drifting in space... keep it!

Well, how does airplanes stay in the air?? (By keeping the speed up, right?)
Since you are in atmosphere, the space ship acts more like an airplane. There are more to it than cleaning/mining if you just take the time to look out there. Several different contract types and PvP/CvC is great fun. Lots to explore if you like that. Achievements doesn't have to take long time if you don't want to. Several ways to gain rank/cash faster than mining. That's just my 2 cents thou. |

As the developer writes in the ReadMe.htm file in the Evochron-folder, it's the inertial dampeners that makes atmospheric flight possible because you're flying in what feels like a solid brick when entering atmospheres. And inertial dampeners work (in theory) in a way that makes your ship less susceptible to gravity.
As far as I know, noone has yet invented that particular type of technology - so comparing with real-life airliners is not entirely accurate. You need your thrusters on to enter a planets atmosphere so you wont just bounce right off it - or even worse, burn up because of excessive friction. In real life, your angle of entry is just as important as maintaining speed. But I guess EM's ships are somewhat sturdier built. With the inertial dampeners, you can actually hover in midair if done carefully, making mining and such much, much easier. All in all, I think EM's physical parameters are quite water-tight. As far as human kind is aware of such matters that is.

No 'gamble' involved; try the demo (which the game download functions as when you download it from Starwraith). Try Arvoch Alliance (his latest game) while you are at it.

We could spend hours arguing about physic, both real and theoritical. In this case though, the ship as depicted could not fly regardless of speed because of it's shape. No lift - No fly. Simple. It is true that there are other missions but you must admit they are also repetitious. Anyway, it's a question of taste. I find this one boring and, from a programming point of view, lazy. Too many shortcuts taken at the detriment of the gameplay. For those that love it. Great! I'll leave you at your fun and stop bothering you on this forum.
