Increase Draw Distance?

As great as the game is, this constant land pop-in is gettig annoying. I literally see trees and land popping in and refreshing right in front of me as I run around.

This is playing with the game on max, and forced AF to x16. Anyway to increase the draw distance so this doesn't happen?

Specs
i5-2500k 4.3 ghz
HD 6950
8gb DDR3

There's a fair share of texture and object pop-in far in the distance but while textures do pop in a little closer than I'd want them to, I can't say I've experience quite what you're describing.

Have you tried running the game without forcing any settings?

It's not like the land isn't there, but having a tree randomly appear quite close to me is annoying as hell.

I turned off all forced settings, still the same thing. I swear to god, the draw distance in this game is like worse than draw distances in morrowind O_o.

I'll check to make sure, hang on.

[edit] As expected, textures are a particular problem but objects and NPCs are rendered fairly far off.

Maybe I'm just a lot more tolerant to it than you are or maybe there's a problem with your setup. No way to be sure without a proper comparison.

[edit2] I'm not saying I'm happy with the way the engine handles things. I'd much rather avoid pop-in altogether, but to me it just isn't that noticeable.

Thing is, the game is a port, no matter what anyone says, it was developed for PS3 and thus the draw distance was limited in the game engine because the consoles can only do so much. According to the developers (on the game forums) who have already commented on the matter, there isn't a way of increasing it for PC due to it being "baked" into the game engine.

whether this is true or just being lazy (as they where with the FoV) is up for debate, but atm there is no way of changing it.
Mabye the modding community might come up with something, they already have a FoV fix (not perfect but its available).

Appreciate it man. The game's really fun and all, but kinda breaks immersion when a tree/rock appears right in your face like a pokemon from a bush :P

Honestly, I would think ps3's can handle a bit more draw distance than what is present so far. Haven't seen a single ps3 game where rocks appear 3 feet away, tho I could be wrong.

Ya For the last few months I've been playing BF3 so I guess I kinda got used to the no texture/object popping.

I tried going back to Diablo II for some old timey fun after playing Battlefield 3 for a good bout. Yikes, as much as I love that oldy, there was just no way that was happening at that time.

Not that Diablo II suffers from this particular issue.

[edit] I may be going mad, but I'm fairly confident I've experienced texture pop-in in Battlefield 3? Not much of it, but enough to ocassionally notice.

From the impression i get from their own forums this game will take far too much work from the dev just to make a proper PC FOV and view distance than it should take. the price, massive lack of PC features, and DLC already shows they clearly dont care. their ex-elder scrolls producer didnt come handy one bit in this game's development

There is a difference between FOV and LOD, FOV seems like it can be patched in fairly easy people have modded it pretty well so far from what i've seen, not sure how well it actually runs though so this might be an assumption, more so if the devs said similar to what they did over LOD.

LOD on the other hand though requires objects/terrain to be recalcuated and baked again, etc. The developers at least admitted theyre at fault on this, it is kind of annoying, i found turning AF right up reduced it abit.

DLC... Its not really DLC now is it if you are referring to the weapons, its just the preorder junk from other retailers, while i hate preorder DLC which does this crap at least they made it available day 1 people who want it.
