i cant recruit maddog.....

first: excuse my bad english, i am austrian not australian :-)

i spoke with maddog and he said he wants C4/explosives....
i came back(with the c4/explosives), spoke withe him again....and he said something like: "i know(smell) you have c4, why dont you have it with you...why dont you give it to me...." - hmmmm, what shall i do now? i HAVE the c4 WITH me. i tried do give it to him with the trade/exchange-button(like i do with other mercenaries), but that doesnt work with maddog! i dont have a second dialog option when i speak with him...i only can end the dialog...thats all.
can someone help me with tis problem?
does he want a special explosive what i have to find first?
have i forgotten anything?
or is this a bug?

Put the Knife, c4, and lock pick on one merc then have that merc talk to him.

Maddog is at the Junkyard near Estoni if I remember correctly.

And like Riftsaw said;
the knife, lockpick and C4 with a timer (not remote) have to be on the merc that talks with him.
After ending that dialogue he has the "hire" icon above his head.
