mass effect 1 wont launch!
I've owned this game for a while through steam and never got around to playing it.
I just tried to play the game today and whenever I try , my screen goes black as if its launching the game in full screen then my computer beeps, the screen comes back and theres a window that says this "general protection fault history: GMatrix2D::Swap() Address = 0x10bd429b (filename not found) Address = 0x245c8b53 (filename not found)" I have a radeon hd 6790 graphic card with latest drivers installed. |

just gonna add I have an amd phenom II x2 processor and the latest hd audio drivers.
everywhere I look I see threads about this problem but none of the solutions I tried work. everyone says intel chips are the problem but I dont have intel chips all my stuff is amd and I have an ASUS motherboard. I verified the game cache and its clean. I downloaded the patch from bioware which claims to have fixed this but it did not. I went into the configuration and can't find a "compatibility mode" I don't know how to "launch the game as an admin" I went to bioware support forums and can't find any decent answers except that the game does not run with intel stuff and should run with amd. someone on there has the same processor as me and radeon hd 6870 and got it to work. it's possible its my video card. I think its ridiculous that you have to upgrade video card to play newer games but you lose the ability to play old ones. I only have this problem with bioware game. I had the same issue with knights of the old republic with my radeon hd 4550 and rolling back the drivers made me able to play it but unable to play newer games. I dont like having to install and uninstall different versions of the same driver. I should be able to reasonably expect I can keep my drivers up to date and not have to fiddle with them. |
