dear esther map coding
I was trying to configure Alien Swarm SDK to create custom Dear Esther maps. All models & textures had loaded proper, map compiled well, but when I tryed to lanch a map I got this error:
Code:
--------------------------- Engine Error --------------------------- Map with no planes --------------------------- OK --------------------------- ![]() I'm poting this here, beacouse sooner or later someone will try do same thing, and it is better to know such obstacles. Anyway, anyone had ideas? For me it looks like the map coding format has been changed or something...

Of course they're not, but SDK should still be compatibile with it, as it can be configured to work with Portal 2 engine.
So, the only uncompatybile thing in the entire SDK, seems to be VBSP program used to compile maps. I would try with Portal 2's one, but I'm afraid we have to wait until Valve relase another game

DE isn't a Valve game, it's a mod that uses a version of the Source engine, possibly an older version, such as the Orange Box version. You may want to get in contact with the developer about modding Dear Esther, since I doubt you'll be able to rely on Valve for anything related to it.

Really. Though, I stopped paying attention to it in late 2010, so I really should've assumed they'd make the change. Apparently the porting job was interesting.

Dear Esther programmer here, I made some modification to the Portal2 VBsp and VRad tools. Maybe I can speak to Robert about getting those out to you.

Oh, thanks! So you guys made this modifications... Well, I thought it was already in the bulid Valve gave you. Anyway, Dear Esther seems to be perfect game for "artistic" mods - it have very simple mehanics, it costs only 6 €, and (what most important) it supports Vscripts, so it got almost unlimited modding possibilities! Please, relasing this bulid programs cost you nothing, and it would allow the comunity to do awesome things!
