New Computer For Far Cry 3?

I'm thinking of getting a new computer before Far Cry 3 (and Borderlands 2) come out this year. My current computer is over 7 years old. Has anyone here bought anything recently? If so what's a good brand nowadays and how much should I expect to pay? What's the best graphics card this day and age?

If you can, avoid a store bought computer (Dell, HP, Gateway) and build your own. You'll save a few hundred dollars and have something with respectable power.
