Skyrim crashes if Mjoll gets hit by chain lightning

Everything is up to date:
- latest Catalyst (12.1)
- latest Skyrim version with Steam (1.4.xx)
- no mod

My companion is Mjoll (found in Riften).

Each time I use the "chain lightning" spell; if it gets hurt, Skyrim crashes (back to Windows).

How can it be fixed ?

Now that's weird.

Have you tried using the spell on other NPCs?

No, I didn't tried, but some friends tell me they didn't have this issue with their NPC (which is NOT Mjoll).

On your side, did you give a try ?

Any idea to fix that ?

I wonder if it is not caused by 'missing sound file', like if Mjoll should complain about lightning on her.

I had that problem when I was using "better spell impacts" mod. The high res version makes some computers CTD when you use magic like that. If you switch to the medium version it fixes the problem. You using that mod?

when she was a young adventerer she liked take too many risks and might not have the smarts left to stay away from the lightning.

It is not a proper fix but maybe use a different companion.

@mr. duck: It would be boring to change my companion a new time, but yes, maybe it is the only workaround today
