Thanks Jindrael, that should be fixed in the next update.

arimajinn: Have you tried all the suggestions in my post above? What OS are you on? And are they any .mdmp files in your dustforce directory?

Paprika Killer: Sorry, looks like that was a side-effect of allowing alt as a key you can bind. Will try to sort that out for the next patch.

My game starts, but my save file vanished. What the hell?

Even when I put my backup save file into the correct folder, Dustforce still claims I haven't beaten any levels... even though I have the S+ achievement... huh?

EDIT: I can't even exit levels... I think I'm just going to wait until you guys sort this one out... the game is sort of unplayable in this state.

I'm playing with a gamepad, and i can't exit levels by using the assigned "confirm"-button either. The cursor just jumps back to "resume"... Try hitting "enter" instead, works for me. If you're using gamepad controls, that is ...

Can you try try the following and let me know if any of the steps work:

1- Verify the game cache in steam

2- Make sure all your drivers are up to date

3- Try running as administrator

4- Disable any antivirus software you have running

5- Delete d3dx9_43.dll and make sure you have the latest DirectX installed.

6- Delete OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll and make sure you have OpenAL installed.

7- Move your dustforce directory to another folder
--- You'll also need to create a text document in that folder called steam_appid.txt and type 65300 in the document and save it.
--- Or just download this file to the new dustforce directory
--- Then run dustforce.exe

If you have any .mdmp files in your dustforce directory that were created after the last update, can you upload them to MediaFire or similar, and paste the link here.

If the game doesn't generate any .mdmp files, then it's crashing before the game even starts running and I'm not really sure what to do about that.. if anyone has an idea, I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

As for the pausing issue, it looks like there's a bug when using a gamepad where it restarts the level immediately instead of opening the menu. We'll fix soon, sorry about that.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Matt, I just bought the game and to my dismay I wasn't able to run it. After browsing this thread and trying your tips out, it turns out the d3dx9_43.dll was the issue. Along with the fact the notepad file wasn't in there. As I deleted and put those in the game launched.

However, the game crashes every minute. I've tried multiple things, reinstalling, updating my directX and OPAL to avail. It just keeps crashing whenever I try entering a level. I hope you fix it soon, I look forward to playing the game.

but here's a few mdmp dumps so you can take a look at it

Thanks!

Just wanted to add that Alt+F4 stopped working too. I only have issues with exiting actually(have to use Enter too), but other then that the game works fine.

jojomojo: I checked out those crash dumps, they're all crashes inside your graphics driver, possibly related to the Steam Overlay.
Can you confirm that you:
-Have latest graphics drivers
-Deleted d3dx9_43.dll from the game folder
And if that doesn't help, can you try disabling the Steam Overlay?

Thanks for your help.

I deleted everything, and ran it back in the mini window. It was still crashing so I was like, .

After restarting my computer twice, it just started working perfectly. Not sure what happened but glad it did. Works perfectly now, no crashes, no frame rate issues. Good stuff.

Thanks again!

I had the thread-opening problem and tried this. It does allow the game to load, but then it freezes on a grey screen before the intro plays. I had Steam verify the integrity of the installation; it downloaded that file again, and now I'm back with the OP situation of the game failing to load. I never even see the .exe appear in Process Hacker before my Steam avatar border changes back from green to blue.

Sorry internisus, I'm trying to work out the cause of the freezing now. I think it's related to windows XP so I'm trying to set up a virtual machine to test on.
Thanks.
