Unhappy Error adding friend. Please try again.

I try again and it doesn't help. What causes this message to pop up, what can I do about it? Is there anything I can do about it?

Try doing that via the steam client or the browser (either one)

You may have too many friends already, or He/She is constantly denying your friend requests.

Beyond that I would not know what may be hindering you at adding said friend.

Man, I passed through the same error and I fixed alone, with these steps:

1° Blocked all communications with the user that I was attempting to add.

2° Unblocked all communication with the user that I was attempting to add.

3° Add successfully the user.

You are welcome my friend, I created the forum login just to post this. I m happy that worked with you too. I dont know the reason, but, as I work in a software company, I use to solve problems by myself like these. ;D

Red face Error adding friend. Please try again.

*Thread Necromancy*

I'm experiencing the same problem. The user is accepting all friend requests, but I still get the error "Error adding friend. Please try again."

I blocked him, then unblocked him, but it did not fix the problem. I still get the error.

I'm also still experiencing a problem that is fixed with the block/unblock method: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=3257069

Any ideas? I'm out of ideas myself. I'm hoping the next routine maintenance fixes it. Does anyone know if they are on a set schedule yet? https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7366-ETYS-5919

/sigh

Deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file didn't work.

Deleting everything except steam.exe and the steamapps folder didn't work.

I decided to completely uninstall Steam (Including SteamApps, I was only playing two games anyway). I went to the control panel, clicked steam, clicked uninstall, and got the following error:

"An error occurred while trying to uninstall Steam. It may have already been uninstalled.

Would you like to remove Steam from the Programs and Features list?"

I said no, because obviously Steam was installed.

Red face Case Closed

Ok ...

On my Win8.1 computer, I completely uninstalled Steam, went into the registry, deleted the stuff Steam leaves behind, rebooted, re-installed Steam, and the same problem still exists.

This time I fired up my old PC, installed Steam and checked for the problem on that computer. The separate computer with a fresh install of Windows 7 and a fresh install of Steam has the same problem.

I think I can now firmly say that the problem lies on Steam's end. I should have fired up the old PC sooner. I just didn't think about it. It sits in the corner, gathering dust and I've nearly completely forgotten about it.

Well, case closed. Problem solved on my end. Now I have to go though support ticket hell to see if I can get a real person and get some help ... or hopefully some routine maintenance soon will fix the problem for me.

/sigh
