Further Development
I think Dear Esther sold substantially faster than the developers ever imagined, and can be considered a success.
Does anybody think there may be more development into the game, i.e. extra chapters before the ending? I just can't get enough Dear Esther. |

I don't think there will be more of "Dear Esther". It has a solid beginning and an end, all wrapped around a solid story. I think that any more content would thin Dear Esther out from what it is.
But I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a new game/story from the developers in the same style, independent from Dear Esther. |

I would like to see small DLC. I can't get enough DE too. But developers (thechineseroom) working on other two new projects and they look really great too. So I don't think, we will see Dear Esther DLC.

Couldn't people/ shouldn't people try to just mod some more content in there?
Like simply modding in some weather like random rain, jump/run, more random spooky stuff would probably add to it no? |

I'd be curious if anyone can get the SDK working a little more reliably with Dear Esther. With a bit of tweaking the Portal2 tools will load the assets, and the compiled maps do run in Esther, however I've yet to get foliage or models to work properly in-game. (The former could be an issue as they revamped the detail prop system)

I'm not saying DE did anything wrong by leading you along a path. I just like it when I can stroll around and soak in the atmosphere and the lore/story. Then again, that's just me ![]() Thanks for the link! |
