Werden nach der Übersetzung nur deutsche Untertitel eingeblendet?

Die Erzählstimme, bleibt die auf Englisch?
Ich hoffe, dass die geblieben ist, weil sie scheint eine richtig gute Stimmung zu erzeugen.

Nein, bei der Steamversion ist das Menü auf Deutsch (teilweise etwas fehlerhaft und inkonsistent).

Die hier verfügbaren übersetzten Untertitel (+Menü, aber keine Sprache ;-)) sind von der Community erstellt worden (namhaft von freakintiger) und müssen bisher noch von Hand installiert werden, vielleicht kommt es auch mal per Update ins Spiel rein, aber da müssten die Autoren vorher wohl zustimmen.

Es wird nicht möglich sein, sie in ein update einzubauen. Aus rechtlichen Gründen.

Darum: Die eigentliche deutsche Version gibt es nur über die Installation dieser bereitgestellten Dateien.

Vielen Dank für die Übersetzung.

Ich muss aber gestehen, dass ich kaum auf die Übersetzung geachtet habe.
Ich war viel zu sehr in dem Bann dieser unheimlichen Stimmung gefangen um die Untertitel immer zu lesen.
Die Erzählerstimme ist ja auch gut zu verstehen.

A quick FYI (but it's also in the installation notes):

We recommend to play with German audio only, since the subtitles do convey a more literal/literary meaning. It would confuse people if they played with both subtitles and the dubbed version.

A little but important update: Due to small errors, the pack does not contain the right subtitles.

Can someone tell me how good the German audio version is? Do you recommend playing it just with German text and English audio? I dont want to miss much of the story (because you say: If audio, audio only).

And some question about vac-banning. When does is happen? In this case definately not I guess? But what I should beware of?

First your question regarding VAC:

VAC bans can only happen when playing on a VAC secure server. Such servers are mostly for multiplayer games, and Dear Esther is a singleplayer game. So no, you cannot risk a VAC ban in the slightest. The system is meant to be protective of multiplayer games that happen to attract cheaters. Also, you'll know if you play on a VAC secure server, that's the case when playing some Valve games at least.

Now back to topic:

Well, I don't want to belittle the hard work to make a German dub. I think it comes down to what you prefer. If you prefer the original intent, that is the English version - concerning the play on words, the literal/literary sense -, then the German subtitles would be the best solution. My goal was to preserve most of the meaning, risking general comprehensibility. But it's as original as it can get.

BUT if you want to actually follow the narration, omitting some plays on words and this kinda "what the...?"-feel, then you might enjoy the German dub. Still, the quality is not that good as the original one.

My advice: Try it with subtitles only, try to understand as much as possible, then play with the German dub. I bet you'd want to play it through several times if you're interested in the story.

To sum it up:

The subtitles that I made are very literal/literary and thus may confuse a bit.
The German dub took my subtitles and altered them to make them better sounding when spoken. Thus, the narration is not that literal/literary.

Again, why not try both? But not at the same time

(Technical info: If you try to install one version over the other, you'll need to overwrite every single file that is being asked to!)

I've recorded an alternative german (amateur) version of Dear Esther (only for fun, for relatives and friends). Is it allowed to dropbox it publically? Would that harm any copyrights? I've received some requests to release my version to the public.

ich habe Dear Esther nicht über Steam sondern DRM free direkt gekauft. Wie installiere ich da das deutsche Sprachpaket? Ich kann ja über steam nichts umstellen!
