Can I activate my games on Steam purchased with Gamestop?

I have a $25 Gamestop gift card which I can use to purchase games online through Gamestop.com

I want to buy Borderlands, will it give me a code which I can activate through steam?

See this list of retail games where keys are accepted:

In your case, I don't believe GameStop does digital copies, so you should be fine.

Gamestop has a digital download store. They bought out Impulse and it's now just called the Gamestop Download Store.

Borderlands retail can't be activated on steam, and I'm not sure what version you get with gamestop digtial download so I'd be wary of buying it since I can't guarantee that it'll activate on Steam.

It is possible do this but you must be VERY VERY careful. If a game is a Steamworks one then what happens is that you get a code in the Gamestop interface which you can then plug into steam. It does try to 'download' something but I never even bother, I just need the cd-key. I've done this for Payday and DeusEx Human Revolution with no issues. the only thing I would caution is that for release day games, you might not get the cd-key in your application until like 2-3pm EST.

But like I said Borderlands appears to nto fall into this category so I would not recommend getting it that way.

You can buy it and it might activate on Steam.
Only Steamworks games can be activated on Steam and the list of games in post #2.

No. I just checked the GameStop client and it doesn't indicate Steam activation. If you buy it it will appear in your GameStop library and you have to manage the game, get updates, etc. through the GameStop client.

Borderlands can only be activated on Steam if it has a certain type of key, but you can't check that before buying. You could ask GameStop but, sine I've bought a fair number of games there, I would say no.
