You own 976 games, but only play TF2

We all know it's true, at least 90% of the time.

You buy a bunch of cool games on sale, and play them for half an hour each... then back to TF2.

You buy the year's big-ticket item, like Skyrim, Dragon Age, Portal 2, ME2, etc - and play it for a month maybe. Then back to TF2.

When you're pulling an all-nighter and there's no decent TF2 games around, you poke despondently through your collection, looking for something else to play instead... and realize you don't want to play any of these.

Why is this?

What would a new game have to be in order to become your 'go-to' game?

I never played TF2 exclusively, but when it comes to shooters, for me, I stick with one game for a long time before moving on. First Quake/TF, then Duke 3D, then TFC, then Tribes 2, then Counter-Strike, then TF2... Now I am on Tribes: Ascend.

Oh, I do this often.

TF2? Bleh.. there is only so much you can play of one game. There are far too many great single player games to keep playing TF2.

For that matter, TF2 went to **** a long time ago. I wish Valve would dedicate 1/10 of their TF2 efforts to one of their OTHER Source games. Pick any.. that isn't TF2.

In the past, but after it became F2P I haven't gotten back into TF2 with the exception of the Winter achievement.

I almost wish I had something like TF2 that I can play for a very long time and that keeps exciting me. Currently, I don't. The only games that really did this for me were Ultima Online, Diablo 2, and WoW. Everything else either doesn't grab me at all (when you poke around a bit and then after 5-30 minutes just close the game) or it lasts for a few days, maybe a month, before weariness or boredom set in.

I speculate that for me it may be a matter of having become a little jaded (turning forty next month, video gaming since I was twelve or so). Or that maybe I'm just over-saturated when it games to games. I don't have nearly as many as you do on Steam, just a bit over two hundred, though there are hundreds more that aren't on Steam, including iOS and DS/PSP titles, but I sometimes think that if I could only afford a game every once in a while and "finished" it before moving on to the next, I'd probably have a much better gaming experience.

Too much choice, maybe? Like a full fridge and you can't decide what to eat. Oddly enough, it doesn't happen with books. I buy quite a few of them, but I only read one novel at a time and actually finish it before starting the next. (So I rule out ADD! )

I actually haven't played it in a while. First League of Legends, then Dota 2 and Skyrim pulled me away from it.

I hardly ever play it anymore. It became too unstable for me to play ages ago, and I never got back into it.

I don't have the internet connection for it. Although I used to do that with Portal. Man, I could play in test chamber 16 for hours. I thought Portal 2 would be the same, but it's not.

Used to be sims back in the day. Then sims 2. Then I found FPS through Portal and never looked back... *sigh* Wish I could pull out my Sims 2 but the activation card is from like 3 computers ago. (This is why I love steam... I don't have to buy the damned game over and over again per computer use.)
