Deus Ex: GOTY first time mods?

I'm looking to jump into the first Deus Ex: GOTY edition and I'm wondering what mods I should apply first. Any essential graphical mods? Should I use Shifter? It's my first time playing.

google deus ex graphics mods. There you will find a link to the steam forums deus ex goty guide. Don't use shifter for you first playthrough.

Indeed.
I would suggest not to play any story and game changing mods.
(E.g.: In the Shifter mod, you get Dragon's Breath explosive ammo for your pistol very early on in the game. With that, lock-picking doors and cabinets is obsolete, as you can just blow them up easily.)

Note: The latter hasn't been fully released unfortunately, so only a few characters and models have been done.
