Me and my friends are considering buying and playing this game co-op.
We've heard the game is way too easy:What mods would you guys suggest for making the game actually hard? Are there other mods that we would want? Can this game be played indefinately for fun? Or once the main quest is complete the game is over? What is the level cap and is it hard to reach? How long to reach cap? Are there plenty of things to do end-game? will i be able to keep enjoying the game no matter how many hours i play it? |

I recommend the Director's mod and/or Hawk's Director's mod. Its basically a modded version of the mod. But with that you can basically change things around. Also Dawn of the Dead mod. It increases zombie count and it makes them deadlier than ever. As for other mods i've seen, they aren't really necessary. Just stuff to make the maps into night time and such. I hope you enjoy the game

Agreed, little to no replay value.

Don't forget to beware the game-ruining bugs that some people experience.
![]() I'm not familiar with the mods myself, but I can say "vanilla" Dead Island is extremely dull/slow paced. The only real fun my partner and I had was actually the result of a bug that led to endless waves of the infected type in the 2nd world map. Sadly the game never does anything close to that on it's own/intentionally. |

Plenty of people have run 3-4 different characters through the game. Some +3-400 hours. I just looked and I have 371 hours.
Maybe half in co-op. Ran 2 characters through single-player. Purna and Xian. About half with Sam B, then got bored with single-player. Currently playing through with a noob. This will be my 3rd playthrough. Using Xian. I'm about done. Definitely with single-player. Everybody's different, and you won't know until you try it. I can see coming back for a co-op playthrough after a year or two. Probably be other games to play though. You really have to try it to find out if it suits you. I always look at Youtube vids or try the demo before I buy a game. Technically, I've had no issues at all. Others have. The games "featured" bugs/glitches are pretty well known, and can be found detailed in this forum. As far as difficulty, it's no picnic single-player first time through. Easier in co-op, but that depends on risks you take. If you go slow, hide from zombies, and always perch on cars, it's easy. If you mix it up, you'll die enough to keep you satisfied. |
