Help with controls Fable the lost chapters

I can't figure out how to open chests. I'm not talking about the silver key chests, just regular old chests. I press TAB which is the interaction button and he just centres himself in front of the chest and stares at it. I can't find any information on what you're supposed to do or if its a bug. Help would be much appreciated.
