AC:B can't "investment" because "not online"?
I just started playing AC:B, and noticing that I can't do an "investment" at merchant stalls because I'm not online or something. So how do I get online? I tried hitting the UPlay option at the main menu, only to be told that the Ubisoft server is unavailable.
So, am I to understand that a portion of my gameplay can only take place when the tech dorks at Ubisoft can be bothered to turn their server on? 'Cause that would be just awesome. Why did I buy another Ubisoft title? I said I wasn't going to do that.

So for ANYONE ELSE (hello?) that runs into this, I've identified a possible solution.
Thing is, AC:B is so clever that it thinks it can connect to the internet all by itself, ignoring the proxy settings configured in the launcher (and in the system proxy settings, and...). And that fails on my network, because I'm paranoid and I have a default-deny firewall policy with a whitelist, and generally run all http[s] traffic through a proxy (because, ads). So I added a whitelist exception for the site that AC:B wants to contact (216.98.48.18:80 today, but YMMV), and presto, I'm an INVESTOR! Oh, and MP probably works now. I'll let ya know. |

I had similar problem, turned out there was a problem with my Router Settings. I switched my Dynamic IP to Static Ip and it worked.

Additional: need to enable several UDP inbound ports, these are SOURCE (remote) port numbers, not destination/local:
