Computer on $700 budget
For someone else so just assume the budget is fairly close to firm. This is what I came up with:
i3 2100T ($130) GeForce GTX 460 1GB ($150) Gigabyte 1155 motherboard ($114) Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR3 1600 memory combo with Thermaltake 630W PSU ($106) Lite-On 24x DVD burner OEM ($18) NZXT Tempest 210 case ($55) Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM HD ($129) Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM ($99) That's $100 over budget. How would you trim/adjust it to get it closer to the mark? He wants to play games on it but realizes his budget is limiting. I'm no expert and was just trying to price stuff as a favor so no offense taken if you think I made a significant error somewhere. |

Thanks. Looks like most of your savings came from dropping the HD size. I assume you consider the HD 6850 to be a better card for the price since there's not much savings there.
I'll point him in this direction. |

6850 is just a little slower but thought $10 is $10 saved

Ah, good enough. I'll leave it for him to decide if he can squeeze another ten-spot out of the budget. Thanks again

He could drop the RAM a little. No game needs that much as of now. 4 would suffice.

This guy got a 20 frame improvement in GTA 4 by going from 4GB to 8GB also BF3 could do with 8GB because 4 GB is recommended but 8GB would be best for maximum performance since you are likely to have other programs running at the same time. |
