Dota 2

I got an email from Valve with a Congratulations! You've been selected to play Dota 2.

I look in my steam list and there is "Dota 2" and "Dota 2 Test". Whats the difference? Witch one do I install or do I need them both?
Also Why does the Dota 2 forum link under Steam Game Discussions redirect me to playdota.com? I don't won't to set up a account there and I didn't won't to post this in Gen Discussion.
There should be a steam dedicated Dota 2 forum rite here just like every other steam game I have.

There will be a forum for DOTA WHEN it's released, as it is, when you play the beta, you'll see the links to the dev forum.

You just install "dota 2" to play it.

We also suggest you sign up at the Dota Community forums. They can help you greatly.

Thank for the reply, but what "Dota 2 Test" then.

And well see if I like the game weather or not I sign on to Dota Community forums but more likely I'll just wait for the 1 here on steam to be setup.

It's the test server for changes that are coming to the main Dota 2 game.

Dota test is 1 week ahead to dota 2, its used to test updates before they are released to the wider public.

DotA 2 test is basically a version to test updates before they push them to the current "dota 2", this way, they don't break the game for esports.

I would install Dota 2. If you like the game than Install the Dota 2 Test. Dota 2 Test is kind of redundant.. so I don't know. It usually has new features and you may want to experience them before they come to the main game. In the end Dota 2 definitely, Dota 2 Test if you are interested in coming features.

Dota 2 Links to PlayDota because Valve feels is the best place for you to go for community questions. Something I support. You'd be fragmenting the community having a forum here. PlayDota is the community and if you want to participate in it then you need to go over there.

That's a pretty bold statement. Considering CS:GO has a forum. Let's not forget Valve employees have said on numerous occasions that PlayDota Forums is the best place for the community to go. Thus the Redirect. Unlikely to see a Dota Forum.

I hope we do get a Dota 2 forum if only for those of us who feel connected to the Steam community and want to talk about Dota 2.
