I need some tips

Currently I'm trying to get into Sniper.

Right now I'm using the Croc-o-Style Set (whatever its called). I have never really had good aim, and I keep procastinating on using a Head-Shot capable rifle.

Is there a weapon I should use (Stock, Machina, Etc) to improve my headshot skills, and also any tips?

Also, what sensitivity do all you Snipers have it set at?

Stock. Use it, learn it, love it. Croco-style is the bane of good Sniping habits.

Not logged into TF2 so I have no idea what my sens is. Generally, go as low as you can while still being able to do 180 turns.

Also if you can't aim for crap, like me, consider headshotting some Walkway bots. It really does help start you off, getting to know hitboxes and movement speeds against enemies that don't jump or shoot you or anything.

Walkway bots have idle hitboxes while playing the running animation, so they are skewed. Practice with them at your own risk.

I forgot about 2C3C's point, but sniping bots transitioned pretty well into sniping bads on a Valve server, so I think it has at least some merit. Depends on how terrible you are. I was pretty terrible. I am still pretty terrible.

I have to predict to get headshots, seriously. Like, set your aim a little bit to the left/right (the way he is moving) and click when hes like 0.5 meters from the aim. Following the head always causes me to fail.

I have my settings on lower.

I use the stock with blood shiv. I used to use Machina+Razorback but i like vanilla better.

Blood shiv is for spychecking, if it bleeds, SMG it. I find Razorback y cause Spies finish me off before i can even react sigh.

1. Don't use the Croc set/Sydney Sleeper (unless you actually use it to support your team with jarate, not just go for 1337 full-charge bodyshots)
2. Don't use the Razorback
3. Don't use the Machina (again, if you plan on going for 1337 full-charged bodyshots)
4. Practice

That is how you get good at Sniper.

use the stock sniper rifle and what ever other load out you like.
as far as tips go take the easy shots and pass up on the hard shots until your aim starts to improve.
By easy i mean players standing still that haven't seen you yet players that are either running straight at you or straight away from you and any player that hasn't learned to strafe, jump, duck at random to throw off snipers.

don't camp don't stand there charged up aiming at some doorway or window waiting for some one to run thru.
Move around looking for the best shots 90% of the time you don't have to completely charge up your shot.
charge your shot only enough to get the frag basically you need to learn how to quickscope.

And above all try to be a credit to your team snipers get way to much bad rep for not contributing

Here is a quote from bloodsire on NATF2 about sniper and a few miscellaneous things
Quote:
Some weird things I've found useful...

- Holding crouch while air strafing allows for "tighter" moves. Works well on scout when popped up by a rocket

- If you double jump in the air, after the second jump spamming ADADADADADADA will cause your model to spaz out (with crouch or not) so long as you double jumped in the same direction as the first, or straight up. Not super useful but some people enjoy glitching the out of their model.

- When sniping, an easy way to line up headshots is to aim at a persons knees while crouching. Then simply let go and fire without need of aiming. This is most useful against other snipers who will see the crouch as an invitation to shoot, or just an attempt at a dodge, if they are unable to strafe laterally, once you are crouch (so if they took a shot and missed) you really only need to let go of crouch and left click. You could do it with your eyes closed so long as that person has not moved to the left or right. It can be useful vs. other classes but only if they are dumb and not moving. The moral is you can add a sliver of "dodging" into a pre-headshot attempt, that is surprisingly accurate.

- Using auto-zoom on the sniper can be a beneficial tool if used correctly. Anticipating the rezoom allows you the option to cancel it insanely quick with right click. Snipers love to do the fakescope bait strategy, there is no quicker way to do this than burn a shot, allow the rezoom to start to come in and then right click to disable it. I've been using autozoom since before there was an option to turn it off, so I'm used to it. It can also be very useful "burning" a shot behind a wall. Strafing out a half second later and having the zoom come in for you. It looks insanely quick to the opposing sniper.

- The easiest way to preform Boston Basher jumps is to swing a half second before you ever jump. So swing then jump then double jump. In fact all you need is one swing then 1 jump to make it from the bats of badlands to the tiny HP on spire. You can do the same thing on badlands last, from the pit in front of last point, up to either the left or right tiny HP's.

thats all I can think of off the top of my head, sorry if any of this has already been posted

Be aware of where you are. Spies love to backstab Snipers and they are easy kills for them. Ocassionally check your back every now and then and hear certain noises like a de-cloaking noise or a team player doing the death scream when being back stabbed (unless its a YER user.) Spy checking is essential as well.

Also be a team player too, things like killing enemy medics or throwing jarate at a heavy+ medic pair is always much appreciated in your team.

When shooting moving targets anticipate on their movements and shoot before them. It might take a while to perfect this but once you get the hang of it you will a very useful sniper

You asked for tips and you are complaining? You never know, you might learn something new.

Here is another tip. Don't pick sniper when there is another sniper already on the team. When you see a bunch of people starting to pick sniper, pick another class.

How does telling him not to play sniper help him become a better sniper?
