Game does not launch

So, I uninstalled my CD version (working) to buy and download the Steam version (not working).

I have tried setting the compatibility to Windows XP SP3 and Run as Administrator to no avail.

I do not have a webcam (of any kind).

When trying to launch, it opens the "Preparing to launch ..." window, flashes a black screen, closes the "Preparing to launch..." window, then does the whole process about 30 times before finally giving up.

I have Windows 7 32 bit 4 gig RAM, Nvidia GTX260 (latest drivers). Any ideas or decent suggestions will be appreciated.

Failing getting the Steam version to work, I guess I'll have to go back to the CD version Lets do the CD shuffle...

the retail still has a disc check? most games just use the key to activate & dont require the dvd to play (i'm on the origin version though)

'preparing to launch' stuff is usually steam related though

Found a cure

Actually more like rediscovered this one.

Do not fiddle with the compatibility mode on the games exe files.

Quit totally out of Steam and find the steam.exe (c:\program files\steam\steam.exe) etc and set the compatibility to Windows XP SP3 and Run as Administrator options. The game runs like a dream now.

Will have to check that doing this has not killed any of my other games.

Just tried this as well:

Leave the steam.exe compatibility as standard (no changes from default) and set the compatibility on the Steam desktop icon instead also works 100%.

Have to see if this has killed any of my other games.

I'm in the same boat, tried to run as administrator and get the same result as always. Sent this game as a gift to a friend who's having the same problems. The game boots and goes into the Paradise City loading screen but then crashes.

I have heard that doing the following might help with random crashes.

Setting "-multithread" as a "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS..." for the games properties (inside of the Steam console) plus trying the various Compatibility options.

Good luck.
