Steam Account Query

Well, a few hours ago, I received an email saying:

"This is an automated message generated by Steam account administration. It is being sent in response to a query made by a Steam user to discover all account names associated with this email address."

I'm pretty sure that this 'Steam user' is not me. Should I be worried?

Did you ever click on that 'green bar' in the Steam interface to verify your email address?

I'm thinking that apparently since people still can't be bothered to verify their emails they're doing it by force now by telling you?

I'm not exactly sure what 'green bar' you're referring to, but either way, I don't recall doing anything out of the ordinary other than redeem a Dungeon Defenders code from reddit. Other than that, all I did was play MW3 today.

Maybe it's just me, but "Steam account administration." doesn't sound like something valve would write in an official mail...

Maybe some bored guys spamming around?

Check the email source to see where it REALLY is from to be sure.
On Gmail you can see it by doing this;
Log in to Gmail
Open the message you'd like to view headers for.
Click the down arrow next to Reply, at the top of the message pane.
Select Show Original.
The full headers will appear in a new window

It says:

from: Steam Support support@steampowered.com
reply-to: noreply@steampowered.com
to: (my email)
date: Fri, Mar 16, 2012 at 4:30 PM
subject: Steam account - Query account by email address
mailed-by: steampowered.com

Edit: Oh, wrong down arrow :P But yea, when viewing the 'Show Original' version, it shows the same emails (support@steampowered.com and noreply@steampowered.com).

Yea, I'd have to say it looks pretty much like the real one. The top part is a bit different, but the message area is the same. Meaning, it's just the message unlike the fake email which has all the html code in it.

Though, even if it is a fake email, it's not even asking me to verify it. It's just giving me my account name as if I had requested it (which, to my knowledge, I didn't).

You get that email if you or someone else uses the forgotten password option on Steam login window and choose that does not remember username but does remember email address, also the full headers/source code of that specific email is;
