How do you run games offline?

Jumped on to play some Skyrim but steam is down.. can I run it without steam?

eh? no you can't run it without Steam... not the legit version at least.

You need to click on steam(in the steam client) and then click on go offline to go offline... then the game will work normally.

But if you can't even login... then there's no luck...

If you are lucky you can start steam in offline mode. Very very few stem games do work without steam running, for example Psychonauts or Serious Sam 2.

google it i think there is something to do with bootstrapper to force steam to start in offline

yeah right!

creafe a file called steam.cfg in the steam folder and paste this within it

BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable
ForceOfflineMode=enable

save and close and then try to run steam... if it doesn't work then I don't know what to say

Steam community is offline atm, steam itself is up and running. I can even launch Skyrim. Dunno why you can't launch it :S

Didn't work for me since i still cannot login.

eh I don't know but I think that it works if you use auto login...
either way even if you use auto login when you tried to login today you "broke" your clientregistry.blob... If you use win 7 you may try to "restore" a previous version of it from the properties menu I guess (I hope this doesn't break anything else)

The whole idea of steam is to be social whilst playing, and having easy access to the internet. And playing games offline could result in some illegal actions, so playing without internet is very problematic ...

Steam Offline mode is not exactly what it looks like. It really isn't Offline mode, it is planned Offline mode.
That is why you have to enter the Offline mode while Steam is online, to be able to use it.
