Both options work for me, but I have the original CD version (and running Win 7 64bit). Unfortunately, it looks like some of the fixes don't work for the Steam version. Limiting memory does work...but what a pain to do for just one game.

So, the "fix", if you can call it that, for us Steam users seem to be either, A) A configuration where we have to restart every time we want to play it, and we are finished and requires configuration every time, or B) A mod where we can't play the original game?

Thanks for the reply though, but these hardly seems like they fixes. Rather a temporary solution. This is starting to look like too much trouble then it's worth.
