Sniper Ghost Warrior Patch 1.2
I've found Patch 1.2 for SGW but cannot install it. I get the error message SGW is not installed on my computer. If it's not installed how then am I able to play it? I have other games that run thru Steam and I can find everyone of them on my HDD.... but not SGW.
On the other hand, if there's a patch for the game then why isn't it being patched thru Steam? Reason I want to see the game patched is the enemy in Mission 8: A Simple Rendezvous is able to shoot thru the rocks of the ravine the stream flows thru to the river. from across the the river. I've tried 30 times to get thru this mission but it's been impossible so far. This is one of the best FPS games with awesome graphics I've seen in a long time. I do not want to have to walk away from it. Please CI and Steam, help get this game patched so the AI are not supermen that can see and shoot thru stone. |

Hi,
When you have logged into Sniper: Ghost Warrior then it should show the version of your game in the lower right corner : http://i40.tinypic.com/28iwwtu.jpg With respect to Steam then in the "Library" part of interface right click Sniper: Ghost Warrior game name , select properties , select tab "updates" and make sure that it says "Always keep this game up to date" . Otherwise try running a "Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF) " and if that not helps then please try re-installing the game : 1) Use the Steam "How to restore your game to the original settings" guide. or 2) Delete the "C:\install place\Steam\steamapps\common\sniper ghost warrior" directory (or In Steam Client try going to "Library" , right-click game name ("Sniper Ghost Warrior") , and then choose "Delete local content") , + Also it might be necessary to delete the "Sniper - Ghost Warrior" directory from your "Documents and Settings"\"your user name"\"Documents" directory also (when/if removing local game content) before doing a re-install - if you want everything gone after having deleted the game from the Steam folder..... (if you want to save any save games or so then take what you want to save from : Documents and Settings\Your user name"\Documents\Sniper - Ghost Warrior\out\ ) |

FiatLux, no game version is shown. I can get to Properties but it won't let me select tab "updates" and "Always keep this game up to date"
I can only uninstall SGW only by using the Control Panel. I did save my SGW 'Save' folder for the reinstall. BTW... my SGW was installed withe the DVD, not a download. I'll see what kind of a mess I can make of this. Thanks for the help so far. I'll be back.....

Ahh, you should have said it was the DVD version. OK, on what hard drive is the game installed? usually it's "C" drive, which is where the update is looking for the game. So if the game is on another drive than "C", this is your problem. Sometimes you can "browse" and find where the .exe for the game is, then the update should install.
You don't need Steam to play this game from the retail install. You can add it to Steam as a non Steam game, but that really doesn't get you much. Steam will not update the game for you, nor will Steam verify the game files nor uninstall it. So don't ask Steam for help. You might try and see if there is a Forum for the game, search around for an answer or post a question, as this really isn't a Steam issue. EDIT: guess I should do some checking before typing stuff. Was wrong about this being a non Steam game, as Robert City pointed out in his reply. Sorry, GT182. Last edited by arizonachris: 03-22-2012 at 10:02 PM. |

I remember Robert_City stating that SGW is a Steam Works game (or something to that extend) so I am a little confused .
I kindly suggest that you try to see if the Steam Client will accept your Game serial as valid to adding the game to your Steam account and then if possible use Steam to install and update your SGW game. Please notice that this, if possible, ought effectively lock the SGW game serial to the Steam account used. |

FiatLux, I've reinstalled SGW, and no version is shown in lower righthand corner. Serial code was need for the first install but no the second time around. And there is no update even with "Always keep this game up to date". Very frustrating.
It's still hooked to Steam, I can see no way to install or play without Steam. I might also add that in the EULA agreement is says SGW is the Property of Valve. And if you don't agree it will not install. Where's Robert_City when he's needed? I think he's the one that needs to get CI after Steam to allow the game to be patched. Thanks for the help so far guys, but even doing what you guys have said it's not working. |

@GT182
Very weird... It should be like this: 1) Game bought (via steam or retail - doesn't matter) 2) Key activated through Steam - DVD no longer needed 3) Game patches itself without the need to download anything from anywhere. What region is your game from? What country did you buy it in? All in all, you may have to reinstall Steam itself... Btw. Guys - I'm not exactly tech support although I try to help as much as I can .

My thanks Robert, FiatLux, and Arizonachris. Oh BTW, I'm in New Castle, Delaware USA.
I reinstalled SWG and updated Steam yesterday. I found something I didn't have before the reinstall.... the map is now in the upper lefthand corner of the screen. If that's a part of the update, I appologise for thinking you guys couldn't help me.... it looks like you most certainly did. And in Mission 8 I'm no longer shot up by the 'unseen' across the river. Plus I can now get to the machinegun near the pickup point for the helicopter. One thing I find most confusing is there's no SWG in my C Drive's Program Files. The other 2 Steam actived games I have are there.... IL2 Cliffs of Dover and Silent Hunter 5. No matter tho as it looks like all is well with SWG now. My thanks to you all. You've unfrustrated and old man. LOL Thumbsup to you all. |

Since this does look like it's a Steam game (sorry for all my mis information earlier, CRS can hit suddenly) the game should be in Program Files> Steam> steamapps> Common.

Yep, that's where it is Chris... Steamapps/Common. Didn't even think to look in the Steam folder. My thanks.

A little hint for the future, GT: if you ever want to reinstall the Steam client. Copy the "steamapps" folder someplace, to the Desktop maybe. Uninstall then reinstall Steam. Paste that folder back in and all your games will be there. may have a few updates, but no downloading.
Now, if I can just get down off this rope. i did it once before, but that darn CRS vexes me! |
