Can't get the game to run, dies in main menu

Remember playing this game on my old xp laptop a long time ago, but i lost the cd and now i decided to buy it with steam on my new Win 7 computer.
But now i can't seem to get it to work.

The game launches perfectly, but the second the main menu comes up and i start moving the mouse pointer.. it instantly dies.

So then i started searching for a solution, but what i got is something about deleting an "install file" (then i presume its "41900_install.vdf") and change the compatibility to windows vista. But this does not work for me.
I probably have done something wrong at some point, but it would be nice to get a fix.

Specs:
OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
GC: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Pro: AMD Phenom II x6 - 2.8GHz

I found a solution to my problem. I installed some windows 7 hotfixes

It fixed my problems with other games like Trine and Deus ex
