Jk.exe won't start, renaming it to anything works

What a strange bug. And i'm not the only person reporting it.

I cannot play the game with steam because of this.

I renamed the jk.exe to dark forces II.exe, and the game works.

win7 64bit
gtx 260 latest drivers

I had the same issue, even once I got it running all the graphics were corrupted.

Tried lots of the solutions listed, but really struggled to get the game running.

Eventually this is what I finally ended up with:-

Shortcut with -windowgui -displayconfig -path mod

Win98 compat with disabled visual themes, disable desktop composition and run as admin.

New files including enhanced/rerendered:-

ddraw.dll
jk.dll
JK-Extension.dll
mod/JKE.gob
mod/JKR.gob

patched version of jk.exe renamed to jk2.exe

It was also suggested to use a new smackw32.dll file, but this caused mine to crash.

For the display:-
I set Enable 3D Acceleration to ON, and Backbuffer to ON, and running in full screen of 1920x1080 16bpp

Controls->Mouse->Mouse Y Axis->Reverse direction OFF

Game seems to be running fine atm.
