Canning mission bugged?
Is anyone else having trouble with the canning mission? As soon as I get the 'Do not go under 200 index' warning I lose.

Yeah I get the same, have tried it a few times.
Am gonna focus on getting canning up and going ASAP, I think that's the problem. |

Don't bother. I used cheats to see if rushing canning is the solution, but it breaks no matter how many canning facilities you put up. Looks like we gotta wait for a patch.

seems like the +300 canning index you should get for exporting $30k should get applied before the "you lose if it goes under 200" missions comes up, but its getting applied after (or not at all)
I've got no idea how a product can get shipped with this sort of bug? QA department at calypso needs to sit down and have a word with itself. |

Well, I didn't seem to have this bug. So it's probably a faulty download or something like that.

I've found a way around this.
start playing normally, then once you've exported 500 canned goods kick everyone out of the cannery to totaly stop production in it. when I did this I already had about 20k worth of stuff made so that got shipped and I was on 20/30k needed for the next mission. Then either due to already having exported 20k or just letting time pass the canned goods index got to 300, which let me finish the 30k mission and carry on. TLDR : after exporting 500 goods, stop all production in your cannery till the index gets over 200. |

Or you could just do the side missions, click on the red/yellow stars around the palace. It's not a bug, they just didn't give a good hint of how to progress.

that wouldnt help, those side missions dont appear until after you've done the "make $30k from canned goods" mission. Either this is a bug or the developers didnt think anyone would complete the 30k mission so quickly after the "ship 500 units" missin |

Lietrally just worked this out so posting whilst I remember it. Pain in the ♥♥♥♥ though.
Ok, do this during the 30k mission: - If you have more than one cannery (and why wouldn't you?) sack all the staff in all bar one and right click so you don't hire new ones - If you haven't already got 2 supermarkets build them, and set to healthy food - (I also have a nuke which I built as I had loads of cash and power, and though of the 'chaos' clue - not sure if this makes any difference) - As soon as the mission completes pause and do the same trick with the final cannery. At the same time the supermarket mission appears by your palace, so complete that (I needed to have my pointer over the pause button to do it fast enough). I'm now up to an index of 330 if that helps. Am alos rolling in cash :-) |

Update: it's easy from there.
*****SPOILER******* Just think police, religion, militarists, loyalists, and solar power at the end, and you need most of the missions in the next phase - seems to speed up towards the end. Can see where they've gone with this but not a fun mission. |

It's bugged, you can instantly lose when the don't drop under 200 objective comes up.
Even if you avoid that bug, the mission sucks. You can have a limited number of task open at once and the mission, the index and an election can take up most slots, preventing you from taking the objectives you need to up the index. |

I've played the mission twice. First time I concentrated on building up the island before starting the canning mission. I was probably around the year 2000 with a ton of money in the bank. I got the insta-lose. So I played it again, this time I concentrated on getting the canneries up and running ASAP. I built a few farms and then the canneries. I completed the "export 500" mission around the late 70s. The rest of the mission then proceeded normally, and I didn't have to do anything funny with the cannery employees.

The trick seems to be to allow your Canned Goods index to rise above 200 before you complete the "Export $30,000 of canned goods" mission.
If you're at all effective as an industrialist, it's easy to complete this very quickly. The Canned Goods Index seems to rise over time during the "Export $30,000 of canned goods" mission in increments of 50. So you just need to slow production down. -If you have more than one cannery, fire all the workers from one and keep their job positions locked. -Reduce production at your other cannery. Either fire half the workers and/or set it to "Easy Does It" mode. -Consider building another type of factory to re-employ your experienced Cannery workers. -Wait until the index rises ABOVE 200, preferably 300-ish and then go back to maxing out your canned goods production. This pretty much IS a bug given how the developers implemented it but there you go. A workaround. |

♥♥♥♥ this bug man. Built up one nice city and lost because I couldn't accept any of the side quests to increase my canning levels as I had to many side quests that wouldn't complete like oil not exporting for some odd reason despite having an oil rig.
SO I started again and I have a great city but now my save is in such a place that I'm screwed because even if I load and immediatly shut down any production there's still enough in storage to hit the 'don't drop below 200 canning' level and then it instantly fails me -_- I'm waiting for a patch, not doing it for a 3rd frigging time! |
