Laid to Rest question

Ok so I started the quest "laid to rest" and it's telling me to investigate the burned down house. There are no map markers and I go to the house next to the inn and nothing is there. According to the Elder Scrolls wiki, I will see a ghost there, but no ghost is showing up

Am I doing something wrong, or did I encounter a glitch? If a glitch, how do I proceed?

Normally if its the one im thinking of you have to go there after dark as she wont turn up during the day

Try waiting in 4 hour increments for at least 1 day. If she doesn't show up use a console command.

I BELIEVE she shows up in the daytime because you must come back at night.

You have to talk to the jarl. You would know this if you read the wiki properly.

Nynaeve is right. Go to the burned down house during the day and you should find the ghost in the house itself. When you talk with the ghost, she will tell you to come back at night and find her.

If you have problems finding her in the dark after this, post on here and I will help you.

Here's how I do it:

1.) Talk to the innkeeper
2.) Talk to the Jarl
3.) Journal says "investigate the burned house" but no map markers appear
4.) I go to the house, no one is there

alternatively I've tried spawning Helgi brefore and after talking to the Jarl, and the Helgi I spawn doesn't do anything for the quest.

Are you going to the house at night in step 4?

The steps I took are the same as yours 1-3, but I went to the house during the day for step 4 and Helgi was there in a corner.

One other thought, have you killed any of the town's residents or have any of them died due to any other quest, or dragon fight, undertaken while you're there?

I went to the house at night and day, and started the quest at night and at day to no avail

also I have just discovered morthal. Unless some of the residents leave Morthal and I didn't realize it, they should all be ok, right?

The quest starts, takes place and ends in Morthal, so you should be fine. Might be best to go back to an earlier save and re-start the quest.
