Steam chat and the "is typing message" thing

How does the "xxxx is typing message" thing work?

Obviously when someone is typing to you, you can see..

What about if you are typing in another tab (to a different person).. can only the person in that specific tab see that you are typing message?

Or does everyone also see that you are typing?

In other words can you tell if someone is talking to 3 people at once.. or is that impossible to tell and you can only see when they are typing something in your tab?

If that's true.. wow.. I always thought it was everyone, maybe the people I chat with change their mind alot about what they want to say! I always assumed when that pops up (and no msg comes) that they were chatting with someone else!

if someone forgets a character in your tab and don't send, if you start typing to this person it will show "xxxx is typing message" even thought the person maybe isn't even looking your tab.. =p
