Did WE delay Episode Three?

What would have happened if we didn't buy Left 4 Dead 2 or Portal 2, and said no to the Dota 2 and CS:GO beta? Would we be in a different situation than right now?

Also, i do not intend to be offensive, but if i am, I will be more than happy to delete this thread.

No, but we would have been stupid, because both of those were good games.

I'm not a fan of MOBAs, so I'd have preferred they'd skipped Dota 2, but it seems the reaction from that crowd has been very positive, so it's not like it was a waste of time for Valve.

I still maintain that the reason we haven't seen more HL is a combination of Valve employees being burned out on the series (some had been working on it for 12 years by the time ep 2 came out), Valve employees wanting to work on these other projects, and trepidation over the fact that they now have to outdo the best FPS ever made AGAIN.

Not possible... not everyone is fan of half life series and people may like zombie series or some puzzle-logical stuff

Valve would have less money and the employees would likely be demoralised. That's hardly an incentive to go and work on a series they were already tired of developing and needed a break from.

Zero chance of that. They produce their games at their own pace, and the only times we ("we" as in anyone not Valve) have had an effect is when leaks or issues have come up and they've changed things because of it. Since there has been no info let alone no leak that I know of, they're not really in need of 'defensive mode'.

I wouldn't feel surprised if we had some kind of effect on it by the way everyone treats Valve. It disgusts me when people get all mad at Valve or make comments like they're trolling us.

Sure they have been silent on the production but this is normal business! Generally companies keep quiet on projects until it's near completion. Plus I'm sure they have a good reason for it. People need to be more consider.

Left 4 Dead got me back into Valve games. Play the old HL game and its mod back in the day. Didn't play HL2 until after L4D.
