Lightbulb Offline Mode without Internet Connection [Tutorial]

Hello , fellow steamers i made a .bat file that runs steam on offline-mode without having the run it on online mode first.

Instructions

Make a .txt file and copy the RED text to it and save it inside the steam folder as SteamOffline.bat
After you're done with the .Bat file create a new .txt file and copy the BLUE text to it and save it inside the steam folder as Steam.Cfgx.

The Steam folder is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam" without the " ".
When saving the files change the filetype from .txt to all types.

To run it from your desktop create a shortcut of the steamOffline.Bat

For this to work you must have your password saved so tick the checkbox "Remember my password" when logging in online mode. Also make sure that you have all the games up to date as it may not work if steam wants to update something.

@Echo off
ECHO Starting Offline-mode Steam
RENAME steam.cfgx steam.cfg
GOTO :STEAMSTART

:STEAMSTART
ECHO Booting Steam.exe
start steam.exe
ECHO Continue after you're in Steam.
PAUSE
goto :ONLINE

:ONLINE
RENAME steam.cfg steam.cfgx
END

BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable
ForceOfflineMode=enable

This has been tested only on Windows7 64bit so it might not work on different versions of windows, please do comment if you got it working on other versions.

For mac users i highly doubt this will work.

Forgot to say that you need to have your account information stored on the computer.
To do this login normally without the .bat file and type your account name and password and tick the checkbox for "Remember my password".Now that you have the information saved close your steam and run the SteamOffline.Bat file and it should open a steam window called "Connection Error" it has few options, Retry connection, Start in offline mode and quit select the Start in offline mode and it should start in offlinemode.
Close the .bat file window after you are in steam else it might not work because the .bat file renames the cfg back to cfgx undoing the forcing of Offlinemode.

Hello again, i uploaded the files to dropbox so people can access them easier and faster.

The SteamOffline.bat and Steam.cfgx files
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18485762/Ste...gx%20files.rar

Open with winrar and extract to your steamfolder which is most likely either
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
or
C:\Program Files\Steam

Make sure your steam password is set to remember and run the steamoffline.bat file.
Also make sure your steam games are updated as it may cause some problems.

Is the Error this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18485762/ErrorEX.png
Or is it this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18485762/Orisitthis.png

If it is the First one press the "Start in Offline mode"
And if its the second one then you dont have your login information saved.

Tested it without login information and got the second error.

You can also try doing it manually without the SteamOffline.bat file by renaming the Steam.Cfgx to Steam.Cfg and then running Steam.exe. And when you want to get online mode back rename the Steam.Cfg back to Steam.Cfgx

No sir, the first picture you posted shows up (like the tutorial said it would) I click offline and it gives me the error that says steam cant connect to the steam server.

So it goes

>I click on the batch file

>it says "connecting steam account: bobxrawks09..."

now 1 of 2 things happen.

It either goes straight to the error OR it takes me to your first picture, then when i click go offline it takes me to the error.

The error goes:

"Steam error:
Could not connect to steam network
This could be due to a problem with your internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.blah blah blah ..
"

.. X.x

The problem might be that you have some game that is in need of updates / wants to update itself.

You can try adding this line : "BootStrapperForceSelfUpdate = disable" Without the " " to the Steam.cfgx. I cannot test this myself yet since i dont have any updates on steam (games nor client). So i do not know how it will affect the steam.

Also you should check this http://www.valvetime.net/threads/for...script.175406/ .I stumbled upon this whilst searching answers it might work better than mine but his downloadsite has been taken down :\

How does this help? It does nothing except swap a file around that has text in it which will only work if Offline mode is set up properly to begin with... and at that point, you only need to disable your Network connection and have no need of this file.

It forces steam to run in offline mode whenever you run the batch file thus also works when you have internet connection.
It only renames the file.
Eliminates disabling your internet connection.
And for the games updating the other day i had Dungeon defenders updating and i turned off steam and ran the batch and it did start in offline mode.I did not try the original executable however so im unaware of how it would have performed.

On a sidenote i was unaware that you could get into steam offline mode by just unplugging your internet cable. Steam just starts updating endlessly for me.

Filmed a quick video of running the batch but seems that dropbox buffers years. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18485762/Steamoffline.wmv if you want to wait an eternity to see me run the batch offline and online click the link.

steam may give you the option to start in offline mode if your internet is off...but it doesn't always work. i had to turn my cell phone into an access point just to get steam to run....being only able to play binding of Isaac was getting a bit boring on this camping trip.

Internet in the middle of a forrest FTW.
