When it first came out, From Dust required a connection and sign-in to their servers for authentication every time you started the game. There are also games that required a constant internet connection even if you're playing single player. So yeah, this wouldn't be surprising. I kinda figured there was going to be some sort of tarnish that keeps this gem from shining.

All of my GFWL games work offline, and this one likely too.

Does this also mean, there won't be any Steam-achievements for this game but all in gfwl? That would suck pretty much. I pre-ordered anyway since I was curious about this game since I saw the first trailer, but I never considered buying an XBOX360, so I am more than happy to see it on the pc. The gfwl thing is a bit of a showstopper, though. Must be the fact that microsoft is the publisher.

Every games for windows live game has the "Internet required" tag. Its to cover the online features of games for windows live, not the actual game.(I just looked at my Retail Universe At War box, and it has the same disclaimer. I didn't have internet when i first got it and played it quite a bit without and problems.)

And Astrixzero said, most GFWL games that have a single player component, can be played with an offline GFWL account, or even an online account, put into offline mode(mind you thats alot less and more simple at the same time depending on the game).

GFWL? Damn it, if only I had a chance to notice this thread one hour ago I could have spared myself some euro.

I wonder if I can get a refund.

It's not connecting to gfwl for me and my internet is working fine so it must be on their side.

GFWL has nothing to do with this game lol wtf.

Support the people who made the game and most of all enjoy the game.

I just got done playing it for a few hours. I am liking it a lot, though it seems to be a bit short. I am already 54% done. I had no problems with GFWL, though I understand that a lot of people do. Sucks that they made that choice. I know sometimes companies use GFWL to port stuff from the XBox over to PC because it is easier. However, the technical issues do present a problem for many.

Also, there are no Steam achievements. I have only gotten GFWL achievements so far.

I don't think the makers of this game will make any profit from the Steam sale. The publisher here is microsoft, so money goes there. The developers propably had to sign a contract where all rights go to Microsoft so they could get funding for doing the game.
