Gothic 1-4? Which one is the best?

Never played Gothic before...

(1) Which one has the best storyline?

(2) Which one has the longest playtime?

I don't really care for the graphic as long as it has a strong storyline.

Thank you!

Arcania is crap, skip it.

Get the Universe Bundle and Forsaken Gods. Play them in order and you've got yourself a solid storyline, since each game continues where the previous one left off, pretty much.

It's a subjective call like all opinions are although I think most Gothic fans would tend to tell you that Gothic 2 is the best of the bunch if you had to pick one. I suspect these same folks would tend to rank the original Gothic in the number 2 spot.

I disagree about Arcania. I played the demo for a couple hours and had fun but there again, it's a subjective thing. I'd say play the demo and make your own call. Other people cannot tell you what you'll like, you know?

I think the bundle for all of them is a great deal and plan to buy that today.

Gothic 2.

100+ hours and I'm still only on chapter 3. (I like to explore and loot/kill everything).

Gothic 2 is the best but it's too old so the answer is Risen.

Gothic 1 is awesome, Gothic 2 is the best, Gothic 3 is average, Gothic 4 is utter crap.
If you want to play for story, Gothic 1 starts the awesome story, Gothic 2 continues it. Story in Gothic 3 is very weak.
Imo, Gothic 2 has the longest playtime. I spent so much time playing it and discovering everything it has to offer.
Well, that's it.

Risen is also cool, but it's still not as good as Gothic 1/2. I wish it was on sale.

Agreed, if you play Gothic 3 there is a file out on the net that makes the game look very nice. Just look it up.

Edit: Here it is.

1-2 are the best by far in my opinion but they are too old, so gothic 3 would be the best choice if you are looking for a good story with nice graphics. Arcania sucks, it's not a gothic game.

Are Gothic 3 and Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition different games? I bought the Universe Edition last time it was on sale, but didn't realize there was a different version of Gothic 3. If I buy Forsaken Gods, will it remove the original Gothic 3 from my library, or is it considered a seperate game?

@Television: Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods is the stand alone addon for Gothic 3, so yes, different games. Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods was patched with a major patch and therefore it is now called Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition.

Edit//So, no, it will not remove Gothic 3, it is a separate game as it is the addon of Gothic 3

Awesome, thanks for the info ThomNG. That's what I was figuring considering both are being offered together in the big bundle.
