Microsoft Flight has detected a corrupted installation and will now exit

Hello all,

so we have been seeing an increase in the number of reports of Microsoft Flight detecting a corrupted install, in general the files in question are one of the .pak files of the Steam install. To find out which .pak file is causing the issue please look in the following log file:
In XP it is:
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Microsoft\Flight\ContentErrors.log

In Windows 7 or Vista it is:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Flig ht\ContentErrors.log We have been unable to reproduce this issue in house, so we would like to ask for your help.

If you are running into the Corrupt install detected error message I would appreciate the following:

Go to the contenterrors.log file I mentioned above copy the contents to another notepad file, you can simply name it as *your user name on Steam*sContentErrors.log .
Then:
1. Open the Steam client
2. Go to the Library tab
3. Right click on Microsoft Flight
4. Select Properties
5. Select the Local Files Tab
6. Select Verify Integrity of Game Cache

This will hopefully fix the issue for you.

IF it does not and you again receive the Corrupted install message, again open the contenterrors.log file, copy it’s contents to the same notepad file with the information from your previous contenterrors.log file, and note in some way this was after attempting the steam repair.

At this point please email MsFlight@Microsoft.com, include the Errors you have saved from ContentErrors.log, as well as what steps you have taken so far, and what if any anti-virus program you are running.

You can also post the above information in thread, saying that you have emailed us (DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR POST)

This will help us immensely in figuring out the root cause of this issue and getting it so people are no longer running into it.

Thanks,

Loki and the Microsoft Flight Team.

It's nice your trying to help us.. but I know I have already mentioned.. that the solution you are suggesting lets the game work one time. On the following run of the game, it's corrupted again.

Thats why I am trying to collect info. It fixes it for some users, for others it only lets them play once. So please get me the information I requested so we can try to get to the root of the problem

Verifying integrity of the game cache does not fix the problem for me. I have emailed the error report but here it is again:

Failed to verify file 'c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\microsoft flight\Updates\CorePropDefs1.pak'. hr=0x80092004

I would like to thank everyone for submitting their reports, we are still trying to locate the source of this issue, so getting the end user's experience is invaluable to us in tracking down the specific cause of this error, and if it is something we can control or if it is due to a third party's program interacting with Flight.

I was getting this error. Verifying my cache as per your original instructions didn't work until I renamed the file it was complaining about.

Working now.

By the way; just did a CRC check on the old "corrupt" file which I backed up first, and the one that the verification replaced it with, and the files contents are different. PM me if you would like a copy of the 2 files.

the file contents are probably different because you renamed it
(maybe) ***OOPS my mistake, I thought you meant the CRC's are different***

Well my initial thoughts were that CRC doesn't take file names into consideration, so I googled it, and, although not common, there is no rules to say you can't.

So I double checked, file renamed to original, still different.

I extracted the .pak files and although the CRC result is different on the pak files themselves, the extracted files have the same CRC result.

Here's the checks:

Corrupt CoreContent1.en-US.pak
bcb316d2

Working CoreContent1.en-US.pak
1b55eb04

Interesting. Thanks for the report. Though why the Steam verification would not repair the file is slightly confusing to me, as it does a fresh download and overwrites what you have on your computer. While I may be confused about the why, I am glad that you are up and flying again.

The steam verification passed when I did it the first time, like it's happy with the bcb316d2 file, but the game doesn't like it when it does it's own check. I had to remove this file completely before steam replaced it with another verification check.

Has this problem been solved.

I am still having this problem and I can not get Flight to run.....has anyone figured out what the problem is and how to fix it?

My FS Flight worked fine until I purchased the Add on Hawaii and some planes from Steam...then it broke.

Thanks for any help on this.

I have been playing MS Flight perfectly fine since 24th Apr 2012, and played last night 7th May 2012 and completed the Aerocache of the Day, then shutdown my PC. I started up this evening 8th May 2012 and during the login process whilst "Content Loading" was showing received the Microsoft Flight has detected a corrupted installion message.

I have attempted the Steam File Verification a couple of times with no change to condition or error message. I have not installed any new applications.

Here is the information requested...

Many thanks for your help in this matter.
