Unhappy I'm finding playing extremely hard for all the wrong reasons

Sorry, this is kind of a long read but I would like comments on it.

When I'm in game the first match I played there wasn't much lag and it was really fun!

Then after that game after game my ship does nothing but spin in a circle and jump around on the screen making it entirely unplayable. I restarted the game time and time again yet it barely helped and only for a few minutes before it became unplayable again.

Now for things wrong with the game itself other than network, frame rate, and this "lag" everyone speaks so frequently of.

When losing a game it seems like you get slammed to hard, you lose a lot of exp and items, a lot of the time I don't even get any items at all. If you're a poor player, or can barely play at all like me due to the game's issues listed above it just hurts you so terribly. I don't think I'll ever get to a Mk II ship.

The tutorial doesn't explain things enough; and example - what the hell does the Armageddon missile even do? I research it in games and I can't even tell what the hell it does or how to use it.

Lastly, some of you will tell me a lot of these problems can be solved but installing team speak and talking to people in it, that's all good but no game no matter what it is should require people that buy it to have to install third party software and speak over voice to people about how to play the game.

I really dislike the fact that I must do the above just to understand how to play this game. One might think this is just personal preference, but what about those of us who cannot speak? I guess you didn't expect a mute to play your game?

Lastly the escort ships, I might not as well even buy them. If I'm a cloaked ship and I have them they give away my position, what the hell is that?! Why not let them cloak too? If that's overpowered then at least make them work correctly. I was attacking a base turret as a destroyer and I had all ships designed to attack only base structures really well yet apparently I'm too far away for them to do anything about it? They just sit there doing nothing unless I fly right next to the structure, 100% worthless because attacking a cluster of them is going to kill me vs me attacking each one as far away as I can. Also, the other kinds of ships seem to do nothing at all half the time or do their jobs really poorly. Failing all that they just instantly die from any amount of any fire from anything.

Despite all this negative but there is positive, the game play is fresh and original (even though it's mostly a DoTA game) it brings new elements to the table. The ships, when the lag issues aren't effecting them, feel nice how they work. The controls, although a little terrible at times seem to work just fine. I wish I could set them to be QWER like other DoTA games better, perhaps I can and I'm just being dumb.

Either way, great potential just needs more work. This feels like it fell under the situation of the devs knowing it needs more work but they needed money to continue working on it so instead of buffing it out they just lunched it anyway. I might be wrong about this, I think maybe this game has been out for a while? I dunno, I think I read of someone asking if these issues listed above could be fixed in 2010 somewhere.

In the end this game could be amazing but falls so short because of the things listed above it becomes unplayable. I really hope it get's fixed.

I'm not mad, I'm just deeply disappointed.

Hey,

1. in conquest, if you lose, you get one item. If you win you get two. You never get nothing. You also never lose exp. The only time were you dont get items is in battlefield but the winners only get one because its so quick. You get to a mark 2 ship with 15 k exp. Thats 3-5 matches.

2. escorts and stealth is indeed op, as is escorts and quantum leap. Once upon a time you were able to leap with escorts and that was totally op. You got those corvettes with escorts jumping in, shockwave, torp and fly out unharmed because of the meatshiels around them.

3. torpedo escorts work fine, the have the same range that normal escorts upgraded with torpedoes have and can be totally devastating.

4. escorts in general are a pretty new aspect of the game so the metagame concerning them is not yet fully developed. But they can be great, with correct teamwork.

What.

Voice is the big thing for coordinated group gaming. This has not a game issue. You can type to your allies and enemies, what else do you want?

No one is forcing you to install teamspeak, they were just trying to be helpful so they can talk to you. Also, I find it funny that you are complaining about third party software when you are on STEAM. Why didn't you just buy the game from the site many months ago if you dislike thirdparty software. Also if you read around the forums, the game has a memory leak issue where it stutters the game.

The funny thing is, the game isn't that hard to figure out. I only did one tutorial and the rest fell into place. I don't see what you are saying to be difficult at all.

The game goes out of its way not to penalized you for losing.

As mentioned, there's no xp penalty that I can notice on losing, I've scored 5k+ xp on losing games more often then winning games in fact. The only thing you lose out on is 1 bonus item if you win.

As for the lag frustration, I can empathize =(. I do notice that when it happens it tend to be game-wide, everyone is feeling it. Luckily it's relatively bearable compared to many of the other online/MMO I played, it's not the best nor the worst on that count. my friend calls the laggy moment "Ships doing the MJ", as all the ships would slide, wobble and moonwalk off the screen heh.

Anyway give it some time and come back a few weeks later, hopefully the Devs would've fixed the most pressing issues and expanded their server capacity.

But so far, I agree with you, this game is a potential gem hidden behind a wall of non-gameplay related frustrations.

Thank you all for the information, I thought the game gave you less exp for losing, apparently not. I just get so little compared to everyone else I just thought it was this way.

I understand no one is forcing me to use team speak, it's just awkward that whenever I ask for advice they refer me too it.

With this new information I have to say I still think the item thing is kind of bad. You only get one item for losing and two for winning. With games being 45 minutes+ that seems a bit low, considering I still haven't filled up a single ship with at least one piece of loot on each spot.

I love all the cool things this game does, like giving you more CP when you get a leaver to help balance the game out. Allowing you to exchange items for exp is pretty cool (if I ever get to the point of needing to do that) and the list goes on with little things here and there that are so neat.

Despite all the cool stuff, the game just falls flat on it's face from the memory leak issue. When did this first start? Has there always been one?

Not sure if it was present in the Beta, but any number or things could of happened transitioning it to Steam. Hopefully they do fix all the issues since their community of 50+ people jumped to 500+ in two days.

Well yeah I understand that their game grew by at least ten fold but still, they should have been a bit more prepared. Now we just have to sit here with memory leaks and poor server connectability.

LOL

Sorry buy thinking of "poor server conductibility" is funny in a million ways none of which you were intending.

On a more serious note, their should be a patch today or tomorrow that fixes the memleak/lag problem. That's not bad turn around time for an indie. I think about it took them like 3 months to fix the PS3 lag issue with Skyrim and that made the 100% unplayable.

Thumbs down

@ OP
You can communicate one of two ways over the internet. Voice chat and typing out text in a chat.

These options do limit mutes, but there is no logic to your argument. Both are there, you're limited to one of both. Devs can't make more options out of the blue.
