Question about Dota 2
Hey guys,
My friend who is in the Dota 2 beta got more copies of Dota 2 in his Steam inventory. He gifted it to me, and he doesn't know if it is the full game or just the beta which will expire. Please check my Steam inventory, link to the right, to confirm this. Thanks much! Carpetfizz |

I think the key word in "Dota 2 Beta" is beta. sooo...
I'm sure its beta tho, even if it doesnt say it? Not sure why they would give out the full game for free because you were in the beta. I wish I could get a beta key, instead everyone who has the beta now, just gets a few extras instead lol. w/e. |

*edit* Okay, others summarised it better than I did - it's just a beta. It'll be removed from your account when the game comes out.

Sure, Valve is giving out free copies of a paid-for retail game. Also, Santa Claus is real.

No, but my point is that the question of whether these copies are the full game is stupid. Either the game is going to be free-to-play, in which case there is no "full game" copy to get or it's going to be a paid-for retail release, in which case there is no chance that Valve is giving it to all of these people for free
The question of whether the betas is going to expire assumes the game will cost money. If the final game is free, there is nothing to expire. |

If the game is ultimately free to play, then you will get the full game for free later anyhow. If it's a fee to buy the game, you will not get it for free just because you were in the beta. That never happens. You are just getting to beta test. The only real question is whether Valve is going to ultimately charge for the game. |

Alright, thanks for the replies, my only issue is that there is no beta word next to it, so yeah, might as well keep it in my inventory or something.

Might as well play it. They're not worth much on the trading forum right now.

The competition is already free to play and is VERY successful at it. If anything Dota 2 will be F2P and will do the microtransaction thing with new Heroes and Accessories. |

People keep saying all that as well, and it still doesn't 100% convince me either. I wouldn't be surprised for Valve to put a modest price on the game. It has more gravitas than those other F2P games.
