Ivy Bridge speculation thread (temperature, price drop)
Hey
There's a lot of rumours circulating about the IB temperature/voltage being higher than expected (especially when OCing) at the moment. Then Intel decided to lower the price out of nowhere, even though competition is minimal. Obviously this is all speculation but do you have any thoughts on the topic? I have a bad feeling about the price drop. It seems as if it's a bribe in a way. "Oh sorry IB isn't what we promised, here's $7, go buy yourself some mcdonalds."

The least you could do is post links to Internet speculation.

Im currently relocating some of the sources and will be updating OP. Did the same thing when I made the Kepler thread.
Though if people know anything and are going to contribute to the thread obviously they will have researched the topic themselves already. This is a discussion thread not an info thread. |

Supposedly it runs hot, and doesn't overclock as well. Combine that with a very small bump in IPC, and you have a recipe for a CPU that isn't much better than their previous generation.

Glad I just went ahead and built with Z68 boards and I5's for some builds instead of waiting. I was expecting the new units to likely be only moderate improvement anyway.

On the mobile front, the integrated GPU seems to be a pretty solid upgrade. For desktops, the cpu performance increase seems to be marginal at best, while the igp will remain untouched by anyone remotely interested in gaming.

bit annoying that every review I have looked at does not have any temperature readings, I know its a bit weird given the inclusion of the GPU, but not that hard to do :/
apparently though they seem to run at similar temps to their predecessors, until you go for some OCing madness |

managed to find some with temps
http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/2680...-bridge-review http://www.maximum-tech.net/intel-co...12192/?page=18 there is a die shrink sure, but got to think about that GPU let alone surface area concerns seems though that the temps are somewhat similar to SB, sometimes cooler, sometimes hotter which makes sense I guess, although all these benchmarks look at the i7 not sure what point there would be in an i7 for a lot of people, myself included an i5 variant would likely do fine, although I am not sure of the differences this time around is funny that places like anand and tomshardware totally overlooked the temperature testing, and is extremely annoying because while those benchmarks do have some temperature testing, would have preferred a greater number to look at and check over |
