Difference between killing methods

What is the difference between a covert kill and a silent kill in Sniper Elite V2.There is a man sitting in a chair on the landing of a flight of stairs near the ending of the demo that is pretty sleepy do a silent kill is what I performed. I killed myself after the major battle when there was still a grunt left. I killed the lint picking pompous butthead so he didn't "get away" thus ending the demo. I do that so I can see my stats which aren't shown if you simply complete the demo. Isn't a silent kill a covert kill?
