Lightbulb [MAC] workaround for black screen

Ok, seems like we were able to reproduce the "black screen on intro" and "black screen in-game" problems. We are not yet sure what causes it, but we have a workaround for this that works on our side. If you have this problem on your Mac, please try these steps and let me know whether that helps:

- in Steam game Library, Ctrl+click (or right-click) on Serious Sam 3 and choose Properties
- In the General tab, under Launch Options type this:

+hud_bShowClock 1
Then start the game, and it should show a small digital clock in the upper-right corner showing wallclock time. With the sideeffect of game rendering normally (i.e. not locking on black screen). I know that this is outright silly, but that seems to work. We are researching for a real solution to this (which will hopefully not be to always render that clock on Mac :P), but in the mean time, I hope this will help you get by.

Thanks for trying though the game is still black with the HUD only showing. All this did was give me a blue 24 hour digital clock.
Please hurry and fix because I really want to play this game.

Apart from the little blue clock appearing in the top right corner, nothing has changed, it still freezes the computer on the 'press any key to continue' screen and makes the graphics card fan spin constantly till I have to reset. As it was in windowed mode I was able to move the mouse around but unable to click anywhere, alt-tab to other applications or force-quit the program.

That doesnt seem to help

I tried it, but it doesnt help.

I see the Health and something in the upper left corner, as well as the 24 Hour Clock in the game, also I hear sound and music, but the rest is Black.

Doesn't work here (all I see is the clock, loading and menus)...

I tried this and it did not work for me. Still getting blackscreens on the opening cutscenes and gameplay, though now there's a little clock in the upper right corner.

System specs:

2011 MacBook Pro
Mac OS X 10.6.8
Intel i7 2.3ghz
8gb memory

Kudos to Croteam for at least trying to get a fix out asap!

Same same, doesn't work all I get is a fetching blue 24 hour clock along with my menus and hud etc. but no actual graphical content so to speak.

Late 2009 model 27 inch iMac Core i5 2.6GHz, 12GB RAM, ATI RadeonHD2850 512MB Lion 10.7.3. But for full disclosure I've also been tweaking settings in the console and I replaced Apple's X11 with xquartz.

BTW, I noticed after this workaround though that the sound in the cutscenes gets cut off early much of the time. Before.. it was a slideshow but the sound played completely.

Some interesting things I've noticed... later on I did auto detect and customize again for GPU and now I can use FXAA. But, I also noticed this...

When I run Serious Sam in WINE the following shows up in the log for it:
18:32:09 INF: Gfx API: Direct3D

18:32:09 INF: Driver: Display (0x944A)
18:32:09 INF: Renderer: Direct3D HAL

18:32:09 INF: Video memory size: 272 MB
18:32:09 INF: Available for textures: 488 MB
18:32:09 INF: Active GPU(s): 1

So it seems the engine is detecting the vram better in WINE than the native version although it's still saying less than 512MB for video memory size although it does tive 488MB for textures. Unlike how the game natively is now saying 256 for both.

Engine uses specific VRAM detection for NV and ATI under Windows (and Wine therefore). While on Mac we use a method that is supposedly used by the OSX's System Info app. Obviously, that seems not to be entirely true.

Black Screen/Kernel Panic during intro

Hi
I have exact same problem.
During game intro (or menu load, when i use launch parameter for skipping intro) game freezes with black screen (sometimes even Kernel Panic!!!)

Brief specs
iMac 27' i7 3.4 Ghz
12 GB RAM (2x4 + 2x2)
6970M with 2GB VRAM

Game not working for me either.

System Specs:

27" iMac, Intel Core i7, 2.8Ghz, 8Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 512Mb Vram. ROM revision 113-B9110C-425, EFI Driver Version: 01.00.383
Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I get a black screen, can see menus, I get sound on the cutscenes with a flash of coloured blocks at the start of the intro, and sometimes when I stop the cutscene. Game is black but HUD is visible - I can see the health monitor.

Tried the clock fix, downgrading graphics options, running in windowed mode. None worked.

These are very common machines - I'm surprised that nobody in your beta testing program had one... ?
