I think you want to move your comment up to the General off-topic thread.

I would imagine that once they have everything up and running, all major Source games will be on Linux, including whatever the next Half-Life is.

They would have to, since there are too many distributions of Linux to program in it for a broad release.

Which is why I wonder why ANYONE CARES? Linux is not for gamers. Adding the miniscule number of "linux only" gamers to their vast numbers of Windows and even piddly Mac users seems pointless.

Would it be possible for Valve to make a competing gaming OS to Windows? Could they find a way to port most of the steam games to their OS without requiring months of work?

There is a 116+ page thread asking for steam on linux, and that's just the latest one (duplicates get deleted). Somehow I think people care about a linux client.

As with most discussions about Linux, however, I would be willing to bet 90% of the conversation is due to the same folks posting...

Seriously I already tagged this thread earlier and it wasn't deleted yet, not sure why. But really, this can and should be merged with it.

Half Life 2, Portal and, every other Source game already run in OpenGL, but only for their Mac ports.

Anyway, this should be talked about in the Linux Thread. Also the last thread posted here was closed.
