Question Anyone ever play iRacing?

It shows they have something called Formula Fun, which I'm guessing is a Formula 1 knock off. They show an older Williams 2009 F1 car but I don't see any others. I like F1 2011 but want something more. They are offering a three month subscription for $12 US. Anyone ever played this? Whats the driving models like? Can you find a lot of online races? Thanks.

I have a friend that plays it always and he loves it. It's not arcade sim. It's very serious. You pay monthly and it's accurate. You pay for extra cars and tracks. If you play like an idiot and bump people, you will be kicked out.

I have just started on Iracing on the same deal. If you want to race in the Formula Fun category, you will have to buy the only F1 car at $12, and more than likely buy the track that they decide they want you to play on, at another $15 each. ATOW, there is a race in a few mins for FF, and there are only 5 people who have entered. There is only the F1 that you mention of the modern era, there is also a Lotus 79 F1 and a Dallara IndyCar as well. I can't tell you how they handle because the Mazda is the only car i have really tried properly, which feels ok. All the other cars of the base package are either, you cant race because you haven't the correct license or there isn't a race at all, so not much point, practicing in them.

All the DLC cost around $750-800 plus you have to pay for a monthly sub as well, which is $12.

IMO, the best racing sim are GTR2, GTL and RFactor, so try those or wait for the sequels of these (GTR3 and RF2) which are coming soon, or try the beta of Project Cars, which gives you weekly/monthly updates. Iracing is worth a try, but there are a few things that just annoy me with it, so that i wouldn't re-sub.

As well, it would be alot better, and would get a lot busier imo, if they dropped the prices of the DLC by some margin. As it stands now, it is just far too expensive for too little at the base package and if you want to race anything different, too costly to enter anything else.

Well I donated my $12 for the three months plus got the F1 car and Silverstone. So far I'm really liking it. The driving models are hard but cool. The braking in the F1 car is phenomenal!

Here's me testing/screwing around with the Williams at a track called Okayama (The track the iRacing Formula Fun rookie league is currently racing at)and a little bit of Silverstone. I set my Track IR so I set up and to back of the car, but it looks like the FOV is also adjustable even with out TIR.

The graphics looks better then i expected. But i don't like the idea to pay monthly.

Did anyone tried SimRaceWay? Those graphics looks cool too, but i don't like the idea of buying those cars. What do you guys think?

I tried SimRaceWay Bob, It was OK but the graphics are kind of dated even when set to ultra. You get one car for free, a Mitsubishi Evo X and probably eight tracks. I tried to record some gameplay but the game would crash everytime I tried to record. No Track IR support either

I did try some multi-player in iRacing and it was a blast. No idiots who want to play crash derby. JDAyre86 I've not had any problems finding games. Here's a clip from a full 24 player server with a killer crash at the 1:49

No crashing is a big plus in racing games. It's something what Race07 doesn't have.

An Update

Pros : When you can find a round with a lot of people, it's what a racing game should be. It's very intense and a lot of fun. There are some very good drivers and some not so good drivers. But everyone is there to race and not one I saw played like an idiot, intentionally crashing and such. The game has a voice chat and everyone I talked with were friendly and respectful, some even offered tips and such. The graphics are actually pretty good and had no trouble setting up my G27. A wheel is required to play, so no keyboard or game controllers allowed. The game engine is stable on my system and I can't remember it ever crashing. Track IR, SLI and extreme resolutions are all supported. The driving model is set to expert only in multiplayer, There are no outside car views while racing but it does have a very good replay setup. No car tuning allowed in Rookie League but it can be done in testing and the higher leagues.

Cons : Formula 1 rounds are not that popular The weekends are better but still it depends on the track they are running. The vanilla tracks are the most popular. Some tracks I've seen empty the entire week they are run. When you pay by the month and my favorite type of racing it seems is only populated on weekends it makes it hard to renew. Anyways for what its worth I'm not sorry I bought iRacing but I'm not going to renew it either.

My System specs:
i7 950
12G RAM
2 GTX-570s SLI 5040X1050 Resolution across three monitors
Logitech G27
Track IR 4 Pro
Win7 64

@ Souls

I have never played iRacing; but usually it gets good reports.
Had many racing games over the years and my heart is always with F1, although I have been a big fan of Race07, because I like the physics in the game.
One game, that for some reason I never bought, was GPL's. Wow, what a game and what a challenge. I have not been near Race07 since I bought GPL's for £3 a few weeks back. It is updated and when played in full HD it dose not look it's 13 or 14 years age. I have not raced online yet (still mainly practicing) but there is a massive online following. Hundreds of tracks etc to download. I just love all the old tracks; many of which have now gone.
For anyone that loves the 60/70's era of F1 I would say to them "give it a try".

I'm assuming GPL means Gran Prix Legends? I love how some old games have been re-made. Flight sims are my other passion and there is an old sim called Falcon 4.0 from 1998 has been re made into Falcon BMS. I will have to check out GPL, The old F1 cars and tracks look like fun. What about rFactor 2? Anyone played it? Looks like they have the old cars and tracks as well. Hmm...still just a beta though.

Wow, that video looks amazing! Great to see Monaco in the old days. And it looks nice too. But Rfactor2 is also a game with a monthly fee? Or is their only a demo, because it's in beta?

Here is a comparison of GPL and rFactor http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=mfT9-yfDMJw

Makes you think when you take GPL's age into account.I think the GPL output is the better of the two.

Here's GPL @ Monaco http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=pSmg0In8x2U
Once again a very good comparison.
Notice nice little touches, like rear wheels and suspension in mirrors.

Pete,

to be honest, I still think that Rfactor looks better. The city looks better, the car looks a bit better. But more important, how does it feel? I will have a look at GPL. I don't like the idea of paying monthly for a game, so Rfactor isn't an option for me.

Btw, is there someone who have tried Project Cars? http://www.wmdportal.com/projects/cars/

Hi Bob, you have hit the nail on the head with the question, "how does it feel?".
GPL is the most realistic sim' driving experience that I have encountered. It is very involved and took me a while to get my head round it all; but well worth it. There is a massive amount of stuff online to get you through the different aspects of the game in it's updated versions. It looks quite good in full HD as well. I know how you like Race07 Bob (as I do also) but GPL is so much more real, where it comes down to the "feel" when driving.
You have to spend a bit of time gathering all that you need from online sources...so that you get the full benefits of the updates etc...for instance; there are over 400 tracks alone for starters!
Just pick up an original copy of the game and then this program
http://gplps.org/wb/pages/projects/gpl-installer.php will take over the install and from there you can start building up the game.
It is well worth it Bob.
