Cool Game.. but

The game so far is pretty fun I only just hit level 4 and I am really liking the game play. Only thing which will probably keep me from playing long term is the cost of gems.

I can not justify to myself to dropping 60 bucks for 7k gems. Sounds like a lot of gems but not really. That amount of money should go a lot farther. So rather than spending less and getting less I think I will opt for not spending at all.

I haven't, and really done intend to, buy gems. You can earn them through challenges and through clan battles. I don't feel the need, really, since most of the gem bonuses are temporary anyway.

You only need gems if you want cutting edge soldiers, otherwise if you want to use a cheaper price for some things just use the reward gems, plus every victory nets + or - 300, and victory streaks add on to that, so just play good.

I like having the cutting edge. It just feels like a gouge rather than say something I would want to invest in long term.

Although I will keep playing it for free and as i progress into higher levels my feeling could always change. I tend to figure about a willingness to spend say $20 a month on a game.

I have some subscription games that run about $16 or so, but $16 bucks worth of gems would get me say 1 master unit. Seems very unequal in value. Where as $16 gets me full access to a game world I enjoy and where $16 gets me a single unit.

Maybe my logic on how I consider value is weird.

Depends if the game is free to play or pay to win?

I'm pretty sure people came to the forums (like me) thinking that "the game looks great and it's free!"..

.. well, yeah... P2W.

Don't waste your time, it's a lost hope.

Have not yet decided if it is pay to win yet. Since lots of people are new at the moment seems fairly even playing ground.

One thing that I have seen a few times is premium accounts not having unit restrictions. So going up vs a guy with 4 archers and lots of spears and swordsmen vs my 1 of each type seems completely 1 sided. Being that I lack the necessary units to match his. Same number of soldiers just the wrong assortment of unit types which leaves me unable to counter those focused setups.

I think at certain level you get rid of the restriction so that just means a premium account gives you that advantage earlier on. If that is true.

Just trying to get to level 7 to join a clan and get some tips or more organized parties.

It could be going in that direction. Acquiring the master units its ridiculous at 1k gems based on say purchase cost. $15 roughly. I would not mind paying $2-3 for em. I work and make pretty good living, but even then I do not just spend frivolously and even more so I hate being gouged.

I have not got any yet, but supposedly you get gems from doing stuff at a slow pace. The rate I am guessing is very slow and not realistic.

I'm eager to see how the clan warfare aspect rewards members in gems. That's going to be the key, I think. So far challenges have netted me about 100 gems at level 9.

If this was a game I could buy in its entirety for $40 or so I would. Its easy to jump into a game and you can spend as much or as little time in it as you want. Its fairly simple and strait forward army tactics action.

I want to play and have everything open to me w/o spending tons of money. So this game is not for me as the money investment could run into the hundreds maybe even more. I have not seriously added up the total cost for subscription and say having all the cool units with best avail gear. No single video game is worth that much to me. It as if went out and bought a AAA title for $500. Its not going to happen.

off hand I can think that Say I purchased 1 month + the starter master units + gem gear = about $100 usd. And that is barely scratching surface this games long run cost to a player could be a few thousand.

When I have to drop a $20 for a master unit and gear its a red flag for me to not even get started with it. Oh and to use the master unit in conjunction with others I would purchase i also have to pay a subscription to remove army unit restrictions. Unless of course I grind out a ton of levels which gets slower and slower to do. Good thing that sub has bonus XP.

summed up:
Fun game. To rich for my blood.
