Fix For TF2 stuck on "Retrieving Server Info"
So, I know that there is a BILLION of you that has problems connecting to TF2 servers and get stuck. And lo and behold, I had the same problem... So I had enough searching google it in a zillion word orders. I became a man and contacted Steam Support. (Amazing Customer Service... Kudos to them!)
I got both Windows and Mac versions to fix this... Note: This will NOT affect any installed games. So, you do NOT have to wait another 3 hours to redownload TF2WINDOWS: Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it). Delete all of the files in this folder except: The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo) Restart your computer. Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut. With Steam running, re-test the original issue. Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games. If the issue persists, make sure your network is optimized for Steam: Title: Troubleshooting Network Connectivity Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...1456-EUDN-2493 MAC: Please exit Steam and go to the folder Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam Delete all of the files in this folder except for SteamApps. Restart your computer. Launch Steam and re-test the issue. Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games. Note: If you are using Lion please do the following to access your Steam folder: 1. Click "Go" in the menu bar 2. Click "Go to Folder..." 3. Type "~/Library/Application Support/Steam" 4. Click "Go" This will take you directly to the folder. If the issue persists, make sure your network is optimized for Steam: Title: Troubleshooting Network Connectivity Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...1456-EUDN-2493 Hope This Helps! I got Windows 7 and it didn't work. Just got rid of all my server favorites and the problem is still there.

Sorry to Necro a thread but I'm having this problem. VERY long retrieving server info. (7-10 minutes) then when it switches to sending client info it still takes 1-3 minutes then times out. Try the same server again and it will go in with a more reasonable time with out timing out. I tried the above suggestion with clearing out all files besides /steamapps/ and steam.exe and it is still doing it. I have already done verifying the files along with re installing TF2 and a simple reboot of my computer.
Any other suggestions? |
