Retribution Multiplayer (does anyone play?)

Hi guys,

I'm just kinda working my way into the Retribution multiplayer format, I had one really, really terrible experience a few months ago where I was basically shouted out of a match for not micro-ing properly (I had "First Game" in my steam usertag, nice and friendly). I've played a few games with the Expert AI since and to be frank the AI is pretty bad but fun to survive against swarms of mindless enemies I guess.

I ask of you; what is the state of the Retribution multiplayer scene, specifically in Australia? Is it worth training up my skills a little more? Are there many active games around? Is it fun and not just oldbie players dominating matches and cheesy tactics? Do you get yelled at?

I ask because the online community (what is left of it) seems pretty jaded/dead and moving on from Retribution due to the lack of support and Relic/THQ's recent ka-blooey.

You will have no problems getting into multiplayer as it is still alive and active. There were over 2000 players on today alone! But here is my tip don't look for ranked matches in the beginning becuase that is were all the pro players hang out. Get into a custom match that only has noobs and beginners. Play a good amount of custom matches and then start playing ranked games. When I first started playing I just made custom games and named them "Noob Only" I kicked all the good players and it was really good fun, no problems.

Remember if you ain't having fun you're doing it wrong.

You *Will* get yelled at if you join a "no noob" game and aren't skilled. Play at your skill level and you'll be fine.

Thanks mate, I think I must of just been derping around in the wrong servers! I'll get into those customs, thanks!

Yeah, I know that thanks. These matches weren't tagged with anything and I even had "First Game" in my own usertag if I recall and asked them in chat if it was cool if I played, to which no reply. I'll do as Edge says and try out some "noob only" customs!

I know how frustrating it can be to be playing with idiots (Team Fortress 2 player here), I can assure you I'm trying my best to get better. Thanks guys!

My first match that I played this game was a 2vs2 and I also got yelled at, so I simply sat still and stopped building anything. Told my teammate I wasn't going to start up again until he cut me some slack.

Ended up losing the game because he was too proud to apologize and I was too proud to stand down.

I must try this next time I get an angry teammate

I have to get into the RTS multiplayer mindset, I'm too used to the more casual styled FPS multiplayers where you just drop in and do whatever while you can.

Actually, both of you guys are for doing that. Ruins the fun for everyone, including the enemy team.

Hey man, get a grip. My game at least I joined with an obvious "first game" tag on and explained it was my first game (custom matches) and they still let me play until it was stupidly obvious I had no grip on the proper build orders/metagame yet.

Why don't you step down from your high horse and realise that not everyone has been playing since release and if you actually want people to be playing in the months to come this game requires new players. New players need actual experience to get better and this game's ty Skirmish AI is worthless to train against.

Players need to save their disdain for the actual 13 year old "noobs" who aren't trying to better themselves and we'll stop jackknifing their games in return.

How does AFKing out make you any better than the "13 year old noobs who aren't trying to better themselves"?

The dude was AFK'ing for a reason, remember? His teammate was going ape at him for not conforming to his expectations of skill. The dude was AFK'ing until an apology was forthcoming, not to stall the game and ruin everyone's fun. I don't know about you, but there is a big difference between a standoff like that, and joining the game to rag on about how OP the faction that beat you is while spamming nothing but Tactical Marines or something similarly dumb.

I for one let people know when I play that "I'm a noob, is this okay guys?" If they proceed to go ape later on at me after they know this fact, let me join the game and then for some reason expect me to play like someone at their experience I'm definitely going to be unhappy.

Games are meant to be fun, I'm not here to ruin them for others and I expect the same of fellow players. I'm not going to stall a game for the sake of "hurr i trol uuu" if that's seriously what you think. What I have a problem with is people expecting me to be something I have expressly advertised I am not.

Oh yes, I maaaaaaaaaaad.
