I'm having the same problem on my iMac with an Xbox 360 controller. The game just doesn't see it.

Logitech F310, same problem.
Hope this gets fixed, as it's really frustrating.

Here is what I've gathered from the behaviour of my Logitech Cordless Rumblepad. I went through each button in the control remap screen to try and suss out how Bastion is interpreting the controller. The gamepad has two analog joysticks, one D-Pad, six thumb buttons and four shoulder triggers. The six buttons are arranged like so:

Code:
X Y Z
A B C
The shoulder triggers are L1 (index finger) and L2 (middle finger) R1 and R2
The results are tabulated as follows

Physical Button (HID Button number) - Value reported by Bastion
  • A (1) - D-Up
  • B (2) - D-Dn
  • C (3) - D-Lt
  • X (4) - D-Rt
  • Y (5) - B-Button / Menu (does not register in control mapping screen)
  • Z (6) - BACK
  • L1 (7) - LS
  • L2 (10) - RB
  • R1 (8) - RS
  • R2 (11) - ?
  • Start (9) - LB

FYI, the gamepad has two modes, analogue and d-pad. In analogue mode, the left analogue joystick outputs "X" and "Y" axes, the Right analogue stick outputs "Z-Rotation" and "Slider", the D-Pad "hatswitch" and the slider "Z Axis".

I'll mess around with controllermate to see if I can make a useful patch.

I found a few files in SteamApps/common/bastion/Bastion.app/Contents/Resources called PS3 Gamepad.xml Xbox 360 Gamepad.xml and Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver.xml. I tried editing them in a few different ways, but nothing really helped.

On my Mac, I've connected my Dualshock 3 via Bluetooth and the game now lets me select the gamepad control option (previously it'd tell me to connect a gamepad, now it recognizes it) but then none of the buttons I press do anything. I can't remap controls and I'm forced to use the keyboard's arrow keys to navigate back to the default KB/M controls. Can anyone who got the DS3 set up to work help me out?

Same problem here with my Logitech Rumblepad 2. I wouldn't really have an issue with remapping the controls (even if one of the buttons isn't recognized), except the 1/2/3/4 buttons are always interpreted as up/down/left/right no matter what, which makes the whole remapping thing more or less useless. And the keyboard/mouse controls just don't feel right for this game (not really a surprise given its origins). So, I'm kinda stuck.

Mac Steam Bastion & Rumblepad 2, still no fix?

Hey ttdm (and all the rest of you with this particular issue).

I use Steam on a Mac, and the Logitech Rumblepad 2 (w/ cord). The results you got when you went through the Bastion control remap screen are identical to my own.

Any luck with the ControllerMate patch? (Love that app, btw; It has resuscitated many broken controller problems on Mac games that I've encountered )

Still no word at all from the developers whether this will get a fix? The Microsoft proprietary X-BOX 360 controller is the only gamepad that is officially supported for Bastion? (Not too sure about the fundamental issue here, but my corded Rumblepad 2 does not have an XInput or DirectInput switch. New Logitech gamepads, such as the http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming/controllers/7360, DO have an XInput/DirectInput switch, but as I understand it, they will only work on Mac OS X when switched to DirectInput, so an upgrade would not make any difference...)

I've noticed there are some workarounds on Steam Bastion for PC. Still no third party workarounds for Mac?

Thanks a lot for any help with this! X-BOX controllers may be inexpensive, but I really can't be bothered to buy one, when the Rumblepad works so seamlessly on the Mac, otherwise.

Bastion + gamepad = fun afternoon. Hope this gets sorted!

Specs: 2006 Mac Pro, Intel Xeon "Woodcrest" CPU x2, ATI Radeon HD 5770 GPU, lots 'o ram.
Consensus: Sure, it's becoming more beastly and sluggish by the day but most new games still run pretty flawlessly on it (Valve's Portal 2 runs great, as does Bastion)! A few notable exceptions; StarCraft II and Civilization 5 have tolerable, but pretty unacceptable frame rates when game screen is zoomed out. Will, sadly, have to replace the old girl sometime soon.
