Morrowind vs Oblivion?

I'm probably going to buy one of them, but I want second opinions. I have Oblivion for my Xbox and its one of my favorite games ever, but I want to try it out on the PC with all the modding and such. I never played Morrowind before, but I heard it offers a lot more than Oblivion. Which do you guys think offers more in terms of gameplay, RPG-ness, and replayability? Also wondering if my CPU could run either of them thanks!

From what I've simply heard, Morrowind has a awful lot more when it comes to modding. Not quite sure of this, but it might also have a bigger world than Oblivion. Obviously, not as detailed without mods.

Oblivion alone has greater gfx quality and more intelligent characters (improved AI). There still are mods, but not as many as for Morrowind. Some people complain about the leveling system, but it can be modded from either game.

And although you haven't specified your graphics card, it should be able to run both games, measured by the remaining specs.

If you don't want to spend time modding your best option is Skyrim really.

But since that is not what you are asking Oblivion is your next bet for best vanilla experience. You might enjoy Morrowind as well if
  • graphics aren't a big deal to you
  • you don't mind an outdated combat system (example: you run up to a rat and hit it with you sword but it doesn't really hit because your stats are low. Rat proceeds to jump at you and isn't even close but the hit registers and you die)
  • Most dialog is text which is a turn off for some but actually provides a lot of backstory and depth to the game
  • More complex guild quests with deeper more complex politics than Oblivion

I got Oblivion a few days ago, so I haven't tried any mods either. However, there's stuff on the subject at the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/Oblivion_Mods_FAQ
Plus, something that show the technical differences in gameplay among the 3 latest titles: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Differences...on,_and_Skyrim

Your computer will chug with a handful of mods unfortunately. My computer dips into the 20 FPS (not bragging because my computer is already outdated ) and my computer is substantially faster...3.1. ghz i7-860, GTX 275

I do have a ton of mods; qarl's texture pack (which is by far the best texture mod for Oblivion)... better environments....weather mods etc so possibly with only a few you'll be fine, but don't expect to mod it completely.
