Can I optimize Warband?
I have a six core computer and ati 6770 8GB RAM. But whenever I have a large battlesize my frames go down to 15-20. Anyway to make Warband use less cores since it can't use 6 cores?
Thanks, my pc can run BF3 really good and it frustrates me I can't look at more than 50 men without getting low frames. |

Unless Bulldozer has some wonky new architecture I'm not familiar with, having more cores than the game supports will not reduce performance overall, it will simply use as many as it is possible to while the others remain idle (and their idleness does not impede the working cores' functionality).
However, I would point out that even very powerful computers will start losing frames in big battles, it's simply a limitation of the engine. Even my OCed-to-3.6GHz Phenom II X4 and two 6870s in Crossfire will lose frames when I breach maybe 50ish people on-screen; The first few minutes of a Commander Battle in Napoleonic Wars is often spent in the 10-20 FPS range as people die and framerate goes up slowly but steadily. But yeah, TL;DR -- Warband uses as many cores as it needs, idle cores do NOT reduce active cores' abilities. |

The key here is the battlesize. The lower, the better. Having more video ram (That 8GB you have is probably system RAM, unless you paid $3k for the card) helps a bit.
Other things you can do is reducing the # of ragdolls/etc. It's not so much the PhysX-like load as the additional burden of rendering all that extra 'men'. So bury the dead troops too. Live or dead... it adds up. Overall, it's a limitation of the engine in using high end GPUs. PS You can limit the engine to using just one core, concurrent with disabling sound... all the threads now run on the core (or just get a PC with a single core CPU) Assuming the CPU is not more than 5 years old though... it will still make little difference. |

1.143 had no performance issues with huuuge battles, it's quite the opposite with 1.152 where stutters will happen quite often for some odd reason. Super annoying. Of course if you don't care about achievements you can grab a previous version from the TaleWorlds FTP and enjoy far superior performance in huge battles.
Make sure you have your serial handy when installing. |

Are you talking about Warband, or the Napoleonic Wars DLC? I have 0 performance issues with either, and I'm on an i5 quad 4.0Ghz, GTX 470, Win7x64 & 8GB of RAM. I've fought in some large battles without issue and I've got all the settings maxed out.
