Unhappy A Offspring Fling video review

Well I hope I don't offend anyone with this, it tends to happen.

Like I said on youtube, play the game, and you'll have your timing based levels. Don't create cons which never exist. I agree with you when you say that the game is easy. But you saw only 40 levels from the +100 in total. So, no, i totally disagree with your cons. But that's my opinion.

But, i already did the 100 first levels, so I know what i'm talking about.

I have too, I still dislike the game. The difficulty progression is too slow and the levels lack challenge. I played more of the game based on your post and I'm standing by my statement. I would have given it a better review if A) it was cheaper or B)the controls weren't broken. Any time I lost a level it was because the controls bugged me and not because the level had to be thought out.

On the other hand, reviews are a matter of opinion and there's nothing saying that mine is definitive, the music was quite good in this game and I can see how some people would enjoy picking it up playing a couple levels then quitting. In my reviews I tend to let the price points of my other favorite indie games dictate how well I rate new games and in that respect this game fails, there are just better ways to spend six dollars.

Again it's not that it's an awful game it has its good points, I just don't think that anyone watching my reviews would be too into it as it's a bit slow paced. Maybe I came across a bit too harsh. I'll change the description a bit at least to try to remedy that

Just cause this is the only review on here and I don't want everyone to come away with only a negative impression of the game I'd like to balance things a bit by pointing out:
It's 10/10 from 13 user reviews on desura - and actually the only game from about 80 games in my desura list to have achieved that.
And 8/10 from critic reviews on metacritic.

This isn't to detract from Yessiks review, as he says himself it's all a matter of opinion and so the best bet would be to try the demo if you're interested in the game: http://offspringfling.com/demo/

The main reason the reviewer didn't seem to like it is actually the reason I do. If it required split second timing to finish a level I wouldn't be able to play. Instead a lot of the time you can either play it as a puzzle platformer and take your time getting around the level or if you are into fast paced action platformers then your goal appears to be to beat the times which does require fast accurate movement around the level. If, as an action gamer, beating a time doesn't appeal to you and you instead want failure to come from hazards within the level design itself then you may be left wanting I guess.
For the puzzle platform fans, there is a level skip mechanic in there if you ever get stuck on the more action oriented levels.

Thanks for posting another opinion here, sometimes I make mistakes but here it's just a matter of what type of gamer you are. I'm a super meat boy fan and am a bit more used to fast paced game and I didn't even think that you could get satisfaction out of efficient movement. I may make another video full of positives that other people come up with weighed with my negatives. So if you can think of any other ways this game does well, please post them : )

I hope you didn't take my comment as an attack, i only try to tell you to continue the game, even if it seems easy, maybe you should give it another try.

There is a easy way to solve the puzzle, and a faster tricky way to beat it for a faster time to get the gold flower and rainbow. Considering that some tricks require you to jump and pick up offspring quickly makes pushing up and down arrow a bit awkward. Should be a way to edit keys.

I do agree with some of your cons, put I personally love the challenge of beating the Dev times. It is one of those games I think where younger kids can enjoy for the easiness, and the hard core crowd can enjoy it for beating Dev times.

I think at some point, people will create some difficult puzzles. (think there is a way to share them).

I agree that the levels are easy, but beating them isn't the point. The fun thing is to try to get all flowers, that requires baaaaalls of steal.

I think it needed more discussion points outside of personal opinions.

Maybe some of us prefer casual-easy puzzles?
You can always make your own, there is a map editor included too, didn't hear that mentioned in the review, so that would add more difficulty to it.

Not sure why this rose to the top again or why everyone is taking it so personally. Of course my review is a personal opinion, that's what reviews are. I've been told all this and I still don't like the game. On the other hand this is clearly not the best place to post a negative review. I can see the game has merits, but to me and many other people it was just a waste of time.

my review

I got this game as a daily deal the other day and thought it was a good game although I agree that the puzzles could have benefited from more difficulty. I don't think the gameplay in this game, which seems heavily Donkey Kong inspired (the Gameboy game), works well with timed runs. I've A+'d just about every level in Super Meat Boy but found beating dev times in Offspring Fling! to be more frustrating than entertaining. The visuals reminded me of a mash up between Yoshi's Island and Secret of Mana which is really nice IMO so I doubt you've seen better on the NES, Yessik, as you claim on youtube.

Overall, I don't regret picking it up for $4 as an impulse buy. If you decide to make a sequel, kpulv, a little more emphasis on Story, harder puzzles and some additions and tweaks to the mechanics (maybe some new ways to jump, some type of glide or dig ability or being able to throw the offspring in different ways) could make for a title with more replay value. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the feedback! I think the game can seem a little easy for veteran platformer players, but that's also why I did a lot of speed running based stuff. As I was playing the game while developing it, I started to see how much time I could squeeze out of levels, and that was a lot of fun for me so I figured it might be fun for other folk out there.

I'll definitely keep a lot of this feedback in mind for future updates or future games from me!

kpulv i assume your one of the dev's
dont worry i still like the game ..
but, you should read my post i made "controller help and what i think of the game" or something like that is the post.
I think alot of people felt mislead like me, assuming the game would had larger long maps like mario or kerbys dreamland.
Thats what the trailer made people think of when they watched it. i know that they know im right :-p
And thats why i was really let down when i got the game. Also the menus are a bit frusterating.
Other than that, its like a slower version of super meat boy which i actually kind of apperciate because super meat boy is well... super frusterating. I like this game better than super meat boy :-p
Anyway thanks for the game, yeah, its good, but im still let down just because i felt like i was getting something differnet ( i really like the platformers with long maps not boxed in maps)
but this is a good game never the less !
